I took my three cousins to Yank Sing for a Saturday brunch - had a great experience - both service and food. Two had recently moved to SF from the East Coast, and Yank Sing was their introduction to traditional dim sum served from carts. After brunch we took a tour of the Rincon Center old post office murals with City Guides - a nice pairing of classic SF activities for the weekend.

Unfortunately, Yank Sing has jumped the shark. After dining here for decades and proclaiming that “Yank Sing has the BEST dim sum in the world,” this way over-priced once mighty dim sum “palace of flavor and uniqueness” has now fallen, hard, from its throne. Pork soup dumplings ($16 for 6) came to us cold, chewy and without any broth in three of them. That first dish was a tasteless, expensive mess which only added insult to injury after we couldn’t park in the “restaurant validated” Rincon garage because it was completely full at 12:30pm on a Thursday, presumably because of a Giants baseball game. The next four dishes, presented by automaton-like servers pushing the dim sum carts with little personality and even less English language abilities, were serviceable and cost prohibitive at the same time. There was nothing about these pork, shrimp and combo shu mais and hargows. And the cold Chinese broccoli plate was served so cold (as if it had just come out of a way too long stay in the refrigerator) was so cold as to be inedible. What a shame. Yank Sing’s fall from grace as the best dim sum purveyor in the world leaves me with a hole in my heart and my stomach and now gives me one less reason to visit San Francisco at a time when there are many fewer reasons to do so. And spending $75 (plus $31 for parking blocks away!) on a five plate lunch without alcohol at a sub standard dim sum place is no longer a necessity.

I have been eating at Yank Sing since it was localed on Powell Street. The food is always excellent, and the staff attentive and very helpful. It is my 'go to' restaurant when I have friends and visitors who come to the city and I like to have a quick meal at the restaurant when I am in the city by myself. It's a wonderful restaurant and having parking is extremely helpful.

Dim Sum was great. Food was good, hot, and they had many items to choose from. Staff were efficient, and friendly. Took the time to go over all the different dishes and make recommendations. It is expensive and when you’re picking what looks good off the cart it adds up quick. Definitely worth it for the experience, as traditional dim sum being offered on a cart is very difficult to find. Parking is free for 3 hours in Rincon Building.

The food is the best part of Yank Sing. It is overpriced but is tasty. The cart attendants are too pushy in shopping their food. I felt like I spent the whole telling them x5 that I will order more food when we are finished with what we have in front of us. I felt rushed.

Yang Sing is a treasure. The food is delicious. Everything tastes fresh and beautifully prepared. The service is excellent with the carts moving throughout the restaurant. I feel very fortunate to have this special restaurant close by
