Translated from the Japanese word “home,” the original Uchi is located in a refurbished South Austin bungalow. Award-winning Chef Tyson Cole’s signature non-traditional take on Japanese food has delighted Austin’s diverse dining crowd as well as visitors from across the country and around the world since 2003. Reservations are encouraged and can be made up to 1 month in advance. Walk-in seating is limited to the Sushi Bar and is subject to wait times. Patio seating is weather permitting and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. We look forward to serving you, Kanpai!

    We had an absolutely amazing experience with Omar as our server! The food was unbelievable, and the service was a cherry on top. We celebrated my birthday, and I think I want to come back here every year! And we don’t even live in Texas!

    I am not sure why there is so much hype about Uchi. The food is good but it is not out of this world. There are plenty of good sushi restaurants that compare but more reasonable in price. They did forget to place one of our appetizers, which they course corrected, which was good. I was disappointed to discover they do not have a full bar. They only serve beer, wine and saki.

    Excellent Birthday Dinner. Sushi was delicious my server was great. It was our first time at the establishment & it definitely won’t be the last. Thanks for a great meal.

    The sushi was outstanding, my only issue was that it took nearly 1/2 an hour to be seated after we arrived promptly at our reservation time. All else was terrific.

    I don’t know where to begin with this review. The odd angry energy going on between the two hostesses at check in. The wildly rude responses when asked about some of the plating setups we received from the food runners. Or really just the obviously very long in the tooth condition of this location. Suffering from years of high volume and deferred maintenance. The whole thing is just very much a miss compared to earlier days at this location. It’s certainly extremely outshined by their other locations now who understand elevated dining better. I would skip visiting the Austin Uchi and visit one in Denver or Miami. They outshine the Austin store in absolutely every way.
