   We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. We were not welcomed. Our waitress was not kind. It was a special occasion for us and we drove quite a distance. Our food was practically thrown at us. The service was cold. We will never return.

   We celebrated Father's Day having brunch and enjoyed it very much. The only complaint I have is that my sons' pancakes did not come out with the rest of our dishes. There were only three of us and I would think pancakes are the least of the preparation since my husband had the chicken wrap, I had the eggs benedict with salmon. It was a good 10 minutes after our dishes got there that the pancakes, sausage & side of home fries arrived. Everything was delish besides!!

   We are frequent diners at the Thornton River Grille. We love this place but this visit was truly exceptional. They keep getting better and better -- enough so that I sought out the owner to tell him.

   Service was extremely slow. Waitress messed up our drink orders. Food took over an hour and the restaurant was not busy.

   Thornton River Grill is our go-to restaurant in Rappahannock County; can be counted on for locally -sourced food, well-prepared, and sometimes interesting though not avant-garde choices. No sound baffling, though, so it is always noisy.

    We have eaten at the Grille do or many years. The food is always excellent, but we are disappointed in the new abbreviated summer menu. Trout and/or a local fresh water fish is no longer offered. There are no appetizers just small plates and large plates. We are seniors so I expect not a target customer. But if they are going to advertze local ingredients how about fish, lamb and pork- all missing.
