The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.

This was our first visit to the Walnut Room in Macy’s downtown store in decades and it definitely did NOT disappoint. I had their famous chicken pot pie and my husband had the short ribs. Both were very good. Our server, Brian, was friendly, professional and skilled. We sat next to the beautiful tree, which will soon be taken down and put away til next year. Glad we got there while the holiday magic was still in the air!

Hi We had a wonderful birthday lunch for 8 people . James our waiter was superb and he made the experience wonderful. He is a credit to your restaurant ! Great food and drink and service !

Even though there were multiple open tables, it took some time to get our cocktails ordered when we arrived. Put in our appetizers right away because of that, and they never came. Waitress came back twice to take our order. We told her we’d like to get our appetizers first And she finally had to bring them out herself. Food runners were bringing food to all of the other tables, so some sort of miscommunication. Chicken pot pie was incredible, shrimp cocktail, and charcuterie board were good as well. Chicken salad croissant, salmon and risotto, and asiago chicken breasts were OK. Kind of bland. Overall experience was nice. Room is beautiful and Christmas decorations are top-notch.

My husband had never seen the Macys Christmas tree so we decided to have dinner at The Walnut Room before it was removed. I’m so glad we did. The tree was beautiful and we had a delicious dinner with fantastic service.
