About this restaurant

Directly off the main road along the Brighton seafront, Preston Street is dominated by restaurants. When in the mood for a traditional Indian, locals step into the smart yet informal Viceroy of India where traditional red carpets, dark velvet banquette seating and hand-printed scenes of ancient Calcutta life are matched with modern white linen-dressed tables and dark wood chairs. An extensive menu lists several korai, tandoori balti and masala specialties. On week days there's a calm atmosphere when the contented murmur rarely rises above the ethnic background music. Nights bring bit more of a buzz. Diners are a mixture of couples, families and business people. Sit at a window table, if possible.

Booked this Indian restuarant as it was rated well on Top Table, 08:30 on a Friday night. This restaurant was literally empty, no music just the waiter staring at us. Food ws good but wouldn't recommend, no atmosphere at all.

This is a cracking well run family place that ozzes character. the decor is the right side of kitsch the service is attentive yet not in your face. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the salmon was a delight. Too often places like this are overlooked for more glitzy contemporay competitors but this is well worth a visit

Food excellent & great value (as was the wine). We were all looked after really well and everyone had a really great evening - which considering the mix of people and ages is no mean achievement! If you are more into the latest decor and trends - and like the type of restaurant where the waiting staff are really formal and you are pretty anonymous, then this isn't the place for you. But if you want great food and a friendly atmosphere, Barrys is well worth a visit.

Barry at the Tureen: Brighton. This is the third time we have come to this resturant and we brought my boyfrineds parents along with us for fathers day. We had a wonderful eveing. the food was fantastic, the staff were friendly and it was a good relaxing atmosphere. We had such a good time we ended up missing the last train home to eastbourne, but we dont mind. We all enjoyed our eveing there and can not wait to go back again.

We had an amazing evening at Barry at the Tureen. Having read some rave reviews we decided to try it out for my birthday and I was not dissappointed. The food was excellent, don't expect haute cuisine but everything we ordered was delicious. The wine list was good and very reasonably priced. The goosberry fool was to die for. What makes this place so special apart from the great food and wine is it's slightly out of date styling, kisch decor and of course Barry himself.

Barry at the Tureen is in a word, brilliant. It was perfect for a nice meal with my girlfriend after a busy day shopping and sight-seeing in Brighton. It feels like you're having dinner at an old friend's house when you dine at Barry's. The servie is attentive but not over-whelming and the food is great too, very fresh, good sized portions and a straight-forward menu which is very well executed. Would recommend to anyone living in or visiting Brighton.

Our first visit to Barry at The Tureen. The greeting and ambience was good. The menu isn't very adventurous but well cooked. Vegetables unimaginative. We took our own wine. Whilst a good all round experience, we wouldn't rush back.

Barry at the Tureen was a very enjoyable evening. Barry is a very good host and the atmosphere is like a cozy front room. The food harks back to the 1970s which gives the venue charm.

I enjoyed our evening at Barry at the Tureen. It's an unusual restaurant; I felt like I was at a dinner party at someone's house. The food was good - plain, simple and tasty - and the portions generous. Barry at the Tureen is a quiet and homely restaurant, ideal for catching up with friends over well-prepared, plain food, but I wouldn't go there for a romantic dinner, if I was in a party mood or if I fancied a gourmet meal.

What a gem Barry at the Tureen is! A lovely intimate restaurant with Barry entertaining you like an old friend. The food was delicious with the servings on the very generous side. The calves liver especially was huge and literally melted in the mouth. I find it hard to believe that I ate at the same place as a couple of these recent reveiwers. Will definately be back at Barrys next time we are in Brighton unless in the meantime he decides to move back to London!
