   I had been to this place before so I was surprised that things were a bit problematic this time. In defense of the restaurant, this was their last night before closing for a month or so during the off-season. So the fact that many menu items were unavailable was something that didn't bother us too much (although two of our party had been looking forward to the Brick Chicken). But we found the service offhanded (though some of servers were trying their best, at least one was borderline hostile). The biggest problems were with the waiting time for the food, which was more than an hour, and then two of our party got the evening special, Shrimp carbonara...we were all a bit stunned that there was nowhere a single shrimp to be found in either portion! Once we informed our server, she was extremely professional and took the items off the bill, but it was not a pleasant surprise. So we think this otherwise excellent restaurant just had a bad night and will definitely rebound. But with restaurant reviews being written practically every few minutes, no restaurant can really afford to have as bad a night as this one was.

   The tavern offers wonderful food and service! We have eaten there nearly a dozen times with a variety of delicious options. We are always impressed.

   Compared to some of the options onShelter Island which either have lower quality food, higher prices, or both, this is a very good option. It's not inepxensive to say the least, but the food is very good, and the service reasonably good.

   We always enjoy our dining experience at The Shelter Island Tavern! The food consistently is great. Portions are generous. Service is friendly and efficient. This spot is a gem and we look forward to our next visit. Thank you

   Very pleasing spot and attended by mostly local Shelter Island folks in the off-season, mid-week, when we attended. Friendly staff and seek to accommodate well. Excellent menu options and specials.

   It was good but my daughter and my niece shared the Mac and cheese but it was not good with the spicy cheese last time it had cheddar but it didn’t have it this time but everything else was great thanks

   Very friendly staff and tasty burger meals. We stayed in the nearby B&B, short walk.

   Disappointing experience. Out on Shelter Island for an over night visit. Read reviews from other diners and expected better food and especially service. We were seated in a corner table and felt ignored by our waiter. Only thing that kept us from leaving was the nice live music.

    We enjoyed our visit to the Inn and our evening around the welcoming fire pit waiting for our table. A great memory, and a delicious meal to commemorate a significant occasion. We will be back!
