Acclaimed Australian Executive Chef Chris Rendell is heading back to the beach, creating a menu following his much loved Aussie Cooking Philosophy. The Restaurant at The Surf Lodge will be offering a simple, clean, fresh, local and organic market driven menu with a focus on daily caught seafood.

The restaurant was inspired by the culture and lifestyle of Byron Bay, one of Australia’s most authentic surf towns.

hands down the worst dining experience of my entire left. the busboys and servers was so rude. literally mean. i wanted to call the cops on one of the bus boys for how inappropriate he was. most of the men who work there are so beyond pretentious. i dont know what world they are living in but i will make it a point to let everyone i know never to go there. judging by their yelp reviews i have now seen, it seems most guests would agree.

We arrived via taxi so didn't have to worry about parking which is typically a nightmare here. When we walked up to the roped off entrance for dinner reservations they just opened the rope without any direction or letting us know where to go so we wondered around the front room for a few minutes unsure of ourselves and felt very uncomfortable as the staff was very standoff-ish and we felt very "judged". Once we finally got seated the wait staff was just as rude and impatient as the hosting staff. The waiter literally rolled his eyes at us as we were ordering drinks and looked like he hated his life and his job more than anyone I've ever seen. The food menu is limited and non-descriptive but the food itself was delicious. The drinks were OK as I expected them to be less watered down for a $15 cocktail. The meal was expensive as we expected but I was surprised that they wouldn't let us sit at the bar or hang out on the deck after without ordering bottle service, especially after paying hundreds of dollars for a 4 person dinner. All in all, the view was lovely and the food was good but I would never return or recommend to a friend as the atmosphere and service left a lot to be desired. There are much better places in Montauk.

I think the bad rap this place gets is undeserved. Came here on a Friday night and had a great time. Our waiter was super friendly and had great recommendations. The prices weren't even that bad by Montauk/Hampton standards. The live music was awesome too.

I wish I had read other Open Table reviews before booking this reservation to celebrate my birthday with my mom on our quick getaway to Montauk. We were so looking forward to this dinner. Unfortunately, the maitre d' left us with an awful first impression. He didn't even welcome us, just asked my name, and proceeded to give me a dirty look the entire time he searched for our reservation. Because he was just staring at me and not speaking, I piped in with, "I did receive a confirmation call today, if that helps." No response. He eventually asked me to repeat my name, sighed, and gave our menus to a server to seat us. Our server sat us smack dab in the middle of two other tables, and we asked to be seated at a corner table if possible. She told us that was reserved for parties of 3, which I understood, so we sat down at our table. Within one minute, the same server sat down a party of two at that table. At that point, we nearly got up and left to take our business elsewhere. My mom spoke to her and the "maitre d'" about our issues and they moved us to an outdoor table. From then on, we had a good experience at Surf Lodge. We had a beautiful table outdoors and the food was good. However, I'm a stickler for service and a veteran in the hospitality industry, so based on that host's welcome, I won't recommend this spot.

Service is excellent this year. Enjoyed the live music and relaxed Thursday night vibes.

The menu associated with this place on Open Table is entirely wrong. There is no parking, only a usable lot about 1/4 mile away. These owners should valet every single customer for the prices they are charging! The sunset over the water is beautiful; the restaurant is price gouging with an extremely limited menu and crazy expensive drinks. I cannot say enough negative things about how little these people respect their customer. The place is a dump and you should be ashamed to represent it on Open Table.

Kitchen is heads and shoulders above where it was just a couple or years ago. Surprisingly good vegan options on the menu, too.
