   Great food but got kicked out very quickly. The table was reserved for 2 hours but the service was slow. Therefore we didn’t receive our food until much later 1 hour ish into our time. As soon as we were eating they were saying we have any to let you know we want our table back at X time. Then when we were talking they interrupted saying the guests are here waiting for the table as we’re still sat and hadn’t yet finished our drinks. To me this is very rude but I understand the rush despite there being several tables available for others to sit on.

   It’s a nice location especially if you can get a window table overlooking the canal. Food is a little expensive, and the portions are not over generous (eg the £8 soup starter was a v small bowl and didn’t even come with bread, the chicken schnitzel dish needed chips/sides ordered separately), but it is all very tasty and well made. A nice selection of wine and beer. Decent coffee. Nice staff.

   The Lighterman accommodated my elderly Mum and her wheelchair very well and never made us feel that we were in the way. A 17.00 booking probably helped, and while it was quiet, it was very enjoyable. However, as the place filled up, the noise level became far too high to hold a conversation and the constant loud music didn't help. I think background music is a good idea, but the volume was way too high. The food was good, but not outstanding, and the fish and chips was disappointing and way overpriced. Ditto the chicken caesar was good, not great, and very expensive. The flatbreads were excellent as always and I would advise everyone to order those and nothing else.

   Good food, nice atmosphere, shockingly customer-unfriendly table management. We were asked to leave the table 90 minutes after the reservation time, the reason given being that the first of the party to arrive was early and the table 'clock' had started ticking then - the staff claimed at 6 pm (for a 6.30 pm reservation) - which is by the way untrue, so please either give staff functioning watches or ask them not to 'cheat' when logging arrival times. We'd have been happy to go for desserts and an extra round of drinks, which would have netted the restaurant another £60 at least (which we spent instead at Vinoteca down the road), and we'd still have left by the allotted two hours. So besides losing the extra business on the night, the Lighterman also lost for good three customers who had been there many times before over the years. A good business outcome for the restaurant?

   Good food, nice atmosphere, great service. It can get quiet loud so hard to talk at times. 1hr 30mins is quite a short time to have the table. After 1hr we were told they would need the table back in 20 minutes. 5 minutes later we were delivered our bill. It felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant even though we had 30 minutes left at the table.

   We had a disappointing visit because it was impossible to hear each other. We asked the waiter if we could sit outside under the heaters but he said this would not be possible, so we finished the course we were on and went elsewhere. The food was ok and the atmosphere was great, but we met up to catch up on news and struggled to hear what each other was saying
