   The menu was very impressive. Usually in a small hotel restaurant mid week everything is deep fried. but this menu was intelligently put together by a chef who wanted to offer choice to suit all tastes with fresh ingredients. It was a breath of fresh air. It was also very good value for money. They were very few other guests at the hotel that night, and this was a real gem of a place to stay and eat.

   We had booked a table for 6 the day before but on arrival, they had no idea where we coming and made little effort to accommodate us and didn't make us feel welcome at all. We were all very saddened and surprised as previously we had enjoyed meal there.

   I arrived at the venue all dressed up for my 1st wedding anniversary to be told the restaurant doesn’t exist any more and they had another wedding on not happy ruined my evening

   only people for dining on a Saturday night????? moved from the main room to a back room dining as they had set the tables up for a Sunday lunch event we asked if they had gone into receivership it was that bad. Told that there wasn't smoked fish in the fish cakes only to find there was. Our companions left their main course! No side orders at all on the menu, so our meal was two fishcakes (with smoked fish) and a couple of long stem broccoli., not very satisfying. No wine list. A complete waste of an evening. Been going there for a couple of years but they obviously don't want our custom, so we will vote with our feet and go elsewhere.

   We booked as we are thinking of holding our wedding renewal here. When we arrived the place was empty, we didn’t know if this was a bad thing or not. We were greeted and showed to our table, the place was empty. We had a chance to have a good look around and the place is simply amazing. The service was great and other diners arrived throughout the evening. The manager was there tasting wines and offered us to join them which we thought was really nice. Unfortunately as I was driving we declined. They did however send over complimentary glasses of prosecco which was a lovely touch. The food was amazing and great value. We don’t get to spend much time together but going to east close hotel made our month.

   Poor food and atmosphere, service was good and waiters/waitress very attentive and friendly. Didn't get vegetables with a roast Sunday lunch and the beef was definatly 'a little unusual tasting'. Would not return.

   I was very surprised to find the restaurant totally empty. The lady on reception didn’t appear too familiar with the fact I had a table booked. Lovely room but it lacked any ambience as it was totally devoid of customers and was also quite cold. The food was lovely although they did bring the wrong order for one of the mains. Unfortunate as we were the only people there - what would have happened had it been busy? When paying the bill I was generous enough to ask the waiter to add on a tip but was told they didn’t accept tips electronically. As I didn’t have cash with me they lost out. I have been to The Conqueror before and it was always excellent so this was a very disappointing visit. Wont go again.

    Disappointed, booked on a Saturday night, there was only two other tables! There was no atmosphere, you couldn't hear the music. Very disappointed that the restaurant "the conqueror" which we had booked was closed and we were seated in the hotel dinning room, when we booked there was no mention of the change. We didn't book "the east close hotel" the dinning room was dated, dirty, dull and gloomy, full of cobwebs. Service was ok, the waiter was very polite but not always around when you needed him, only one waiter on he was a little rushed, sad that the bar had the shutters down in the hotel so we couldn't even sit on the sofas relax with a drink? For a Saturday night it was so quiet, we even felt awkward talking it was so quiet. Food was very tasty but portions were tiny, we have been a few times to the conqueror restaurant and it was lovely Such a shame but will not be recommending
