The Assembly House is a gorgeous Georgian gem perfectly located in the heart of Norwich. We set out to create the kind of establishment we'd love to find in one of the UK's most beautiful cities, one where old-fashioned hospitality is valued, food is delicious and where beautiful surroundings can be found hidden around every corner.
From breakfast where we serve our unique Beforenoon Tea - the breakfast edition of afternoon tea - to lunch which includes Assembly House classics and grazing boards, we're open seven days a week.
We're most famous for our themed afternoon teas which change regularly and are served from noon until last service at 3.30pm daily. As the Home of Afternoon Tea, we also serve some spectacular savoury versions of tea, including Beforenoon Tea, seafood option Afternoon Sea and our cheese-based option Afternoon Cheese. Please let us know your dietary adaptations for vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free or vegetarian teas at least 24 hours in advance.

    It's the multi-award winning service we're famous for: four gorgeous tiers served under glittering chandeliers between 12pm & 3.30pm! Afternoon Tea at The Assembly House is £32.00 for one (£18.95 for under-12s) plus a 10% discretionary service charge. ALL afternoon teas served are themed, other than for pre-booked private events. Your booking will be for one of several of our dining rooms, including the main restaurant. We look forward to you being our guests!     The Assembly House is the home of Beforenoon Tea, the breakfast edit of our award-winning afternoon tea served EVERY DAY in our restaurant between 8am to 11am. Beforenoon Tea makes any day a celebration! The menu includes a slightly smaller version of one of our hot freshly-cooked breakfasts and then the Beforenoon Tea Stand which is filled with treats including a ‘fried egg' mango and vanilla cheesecake and cereal-based cakes and tarts. Savouries include mini cream cheese and smoked salmon croissants, Cheddar Cheese, Colman's Mustard and chive scones with bacon jam, three-cheese toasties and Assembly House sausage rolls. Then choose tea or coffee chocolate mousse. All served with loose leaf English Breakfast tea or coffee!

    Another amazing themed Afternoon Tea (Pink - " In a crowd of PIGEONS be a FLAMINGO"). As always great attention to detail and even Pink Scones. Very promptly served. Table checked periodically for tea refills etc. Always a pleasure to have this little luxury.

    Food is always just a bit different in the Assembly House, things you don’t find in other restaurants. The surroundings are beautiful and the staff are very helpful and attentive. Always well worth a visit.0

    Afternoon tea was lovely overall, with far more food than expected. Service started off strong—prompt and attentive—but unfortunately didn’t carry through to the end of our visit. The cheese toastie felt like an odd inclusion, as if it was added last-minute. It arrived cold, with congealed cheese, and didn’t really complement the rest of the offering. Sadly, the brown bread was stale and dry. I mentioned this politely to our waitress, but her response—just “oh, ok”—was disappointing. No apology, no follow-up. At the very least, I would have expected her to inform the kitchen. As we were getting ready to leave, the quality of service noticeably dropped. We had to ask multiple times for the bill. Meanwhile, the food we had asked to be packed up to take home was mistakenly taken by another customer. I had to chase down staff to find out what had happened. Thankfully, the supervisor did step in and kindly replaced the missing cakes. Overall, the experience started well, but the service really fell off once we were ready to leave—which left a sour note at the end of what could have been a lovely outing.

    This is my third visit to the Assembly House for afternoon tea and I cannot fault it in anyway- the venue, food, service , ambiance, all in my view, first class. Would thoroughly recommend it.
