   Starter (mullet and tomato soup) - a perfect 10. Main (a duck dish) - 7.5 - nice, but the slice of truffle macaroni cheese seemed totally out place, and the extra pommes dauphinoises were barely cooked enough. Dessert - banana souffle - 9 - recommend this. Coffee - 10 - although it could have been a bit hotter. The unannounced small wooden box of olive bread and apricot bread was a very welcome start to the meal, and all the staff were excellent.

   Quiet Sunday lunch. Overall good experience. My wife’s fish was slighly over cooked. Not a lot of ambience.

   Small. Lukewarm portions. When ordering a cannon of lamb I expect something more than a piece of meat smaller than the palm of your hand not even a centimetre thick. Too much effort on presentation and not taste. Had been looking forward to going here but won’t be going back. £170 poorer and no richer for the experience.

   Wonderful experience with attentive staff who went out of their way to ensure we had a lovely time. Accommodated Coeliac with minimum fuss and showed attention to what she could have to eat without making a big deal of it. Will be back for sure.

   I have been using Thackerays fairly regularly over the last couple of years. The food and service is consistently excellent, and certainly their fixed price lunches represent very good value. It is also possible to find good quality wines on their list without breaking the bank. A number of people I’ve dined with have remarked on the improvement in quality of the dining experience compared with previous experiences some years ago.

   How has this restaurant got 4 review stars??? We made the mistake of going for mothers day and it was embarrassingly bad, if I wasn't meeting my future mum-in-law for the first time, I would have complained about the dreadful service (I should not have to be waving both arms about to get attention in a top notch restaurant) and the tasteless food which was definitely not up to scratch (watery lobster, watery bisque, dried out bread, desserts that were style over substance, even the Prosecco was horrible), and they were really stingy on the petit fours. I really resented paying 90 quid a head for this. I am really not surprised they lost their Michelin star and it is really cheeky to still display the plaque!

    I took my mum for a pre Mother's day treat. It was a very special experience. The staff were attentive but not overly so, and the food was superb. Beautifully served and very delicious. Overall very good value. The only downside was that there was no disabled toilet. My disabled mum had to struggle up 2 flights of very shiny stairs that made her nervous of slipping. Its a great shame as it will probably prevent us coming again together. Its a fairly large place with outside space and I'm sure provision could be made for disabled people. Otherwise thank you very much for a lovely day.
