About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Gluten-free-friendly
Technique at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Los Angeles features an open-to-the-public restaurant which is staffed by our students and outstanding chef instructors, who prepare and serve the meals. While you our patrons enjoy a delicious fine dining experience, students will have the opportunity to apply their culinary training in various areas of the kitchen and dining room. However, we do ask for patience on the part of our guests as this is an educational environment. With that in mind we will be closed for educational seminars, student vacations, final exams and new student orientations. We may also be very limited in the number of guests we can seat during service times. In as much as our restaurant is a classroom, we hold strict seating policies in order to provide our students with a full educational experience. As such, we can only hold your table for 15 minutes past the reservation time.

This was our first visit to Technique, so we had several questions about the food. What's nice is that the host and servers are all students at Le Cordon Bleu, so their descriptions of the way the food is prepared are very thorough, and I felt like I was watching an episode of a cooking reality show. The dishes were delicious. We opted for the prix fixe menu, which was a starter, entree and dessert from the a la carte menu for $25.00. They were trying to push the tasting menu on us, which was $45, which was higher than we had planned to spend. I highly recommend this place, especially to those whom enjoy fine cuisine, but are on a moderate budget.

The Technique at Le Cordon Bleu is in a class by itself. The restaurant is staffed by students from the school. In my three visits, I found the food of five star quality, served by students of high enthusiasm, in a setting that runs between school cafeteria and upscale eatery. However, as my wife points out, you can not eat atmosphere. Their three course meal for $25 is the best deal in town, and with no corking charges on Monday and Tuesday, we bring our own wine. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience. I would recommend it to anyone with a taste for gourmet food for a very reasonable price. Bob from Glendale

We had an unexpectedly memorable meal at Technique. Serendipity landed us there on beef tasting menu night - 5 courses for $45.00. The food was fantastic and, with the exception of one tiny bobble (this is a teaching restaurant, after all), the service was impeccable. The food is seasonal and the presentation superb. If they are cooking like this as students, I can't wait to see what they do out in the world. A few notes: Reservations are required - but easily made through Opentable. There is no tipping, but 15% is added to the bill as a donation to the school. Thursday and Friday nights are the expanded tasting menu nights. Enjoy!

The food preparation was creative and seasoned very well, although some cuts were a little tough. The fish dish was the hit of the evening. We made reservations that afternoon for 5 at 7:00 pm on a Friday night. The minute two in our party of 5 were finished with the main course (3 course dinner), the plates were whisked away. They almost took the remaining 3 plates away before we were done with the last bite. Dessert came quickly, then the check. Chairs were going up on the empty tables before 8:15! We think they must have been more than ready to go home and we were holding them up.

Technique is a cooking school restaurant. These young people are doing their best to provide a classy and delicious, experimental meal. They mostly succeed, but for a $25 three-course price fix, who cares if they are only "nearly" perfect? I had the "hot dog" appetizer and the squid ink bun was a little doughy, but my dining partner's steak tartare was exquisite. Also, her dessert, a grape panna cotta was fabulous. Atmosphere is like Bottega Louie, downtown L.A. We'll be returning, again and again when I'm up in Pasadena.

I use to frequent the restaurant when the 3-course dinner menu was $15. The menu selection and food back then was spectacular. This new menu was not as good and the food was not great. I'm not sure if it's because of the menu selection, but I was very dissapointed with the food on my last visit. I don't mind paying the $25 for the 3-course meal, but I expected it to be delicious and much more plentiful. Not sure if I'll return to dine there. It's unfortunate!
