What is with that music. It was only 6pm on a week night and the booming bass from the techno music was so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. When we asked for the music to be turned down, we were told that the owner liked it loud and didn't care what we thought as he had 5 other restaurants. Really? It's a shame because the food was pretty good but we won't be back.

We made reservations for 4 through OpenTable. When we arrived at the half-empty restaurant, they sat us at a 6-top table under a speaker playing very loud music. When we asked to move to one of the 2 open booths in a quieter area we were told by the rather surly hostess that we could not because of other reservations. As we were about to leave, one of our regular waitresses (who’s great) saw us and asked that we be seated in a booth in her section (thank goodness). The entire time we ate, there were at least 2 other booths open in the restaurant, so I can only imagine what the rude hostess was referring to. We’ve gone to Shakou several times a month for a couple of years now. However, given our experience last night, I’ve considered not going back. Also, I wanted to write this review because I wonder whether this restaurant prioritizes other reservations over those made on OpenTable.

Wait staff is always great. Food is always fantastic! There was some delay in getting some of our dishes. The waiter comp’d one of them which was very nice. Went for lunch... much quieter than dinner.

It was very loud, and we were seated at a high top instead of standard seating, but our server was awesome and the food and drinks were perfection!

Had another fantastic experience here! Beautiful ambiance and incredible sushi. Gorgeous presentation. Love the black widow roll! We look forward to visiting again soon.
