   Service was excellent, very attentive. The food was amazing, full of flavor and works of art. Ambiance was also spot-on.

   Staff is super nice & attentive. The food is amazing (sweet potato - lobster bisque soup - OMG) and the ambience is perfect.

   We came back to Scales for a second time to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The staff was fantastic and made us feel special the entire evening. The food was even good, if not better, than we remembered. The dining room is open and airy and beautifully decorated. We can’t wait to come back again!

   As usual great place to go to but reservations a MUST. Had a hair or fabric from oven mitt in my blackened cod. The fish was delish but too much oil for my liking and not worth $44. The orzo & fresh peas were yummy with the cod. The asparagus appetizer was phenomenal.

   My favorite place in Portland. Patrick at the bar is such a great bartender/waiter. He is both knowledgeable and friendly and never rushes you, I had the raw scallop appetizer addition tonight, which was fantastic.

   Excellent meal along the pier! Highly recommend if you are in Portland! All the seafood is amazing

   Seafood stew is my go to here - but this time the portions seemed smaller than normal, and the proportion of fish & calamari to vegetables was small. There were plenty of mussels in it but it just didn’t seem balanced when it came to other seafood. My husband had the mussels appetizer which was very good.

    The only problem we had was with restaurant management. Because they sat seven people at a six-top table, the seventh guest had to sit in an aisle that runs the entire length of the restaurant. And because that table was at the first table on the side of the restaurant where my wife and I were seated, and because our table was diagonally adjacent to the table of seven, EVERY guest, host, server, busser, EVERY person who needed to go down that aisle had to walk around the person sitting in the aisle and come uncomfortably close to ours. Eventually we grew tired of sitting in a high-traffic area and asked to be moved. Our server asked the "front of house coordinator" (their wording) who refused to move us. As the foot traffic grew worse, and immediately after our entrees were served, I walked the length of the restaurant and noted FOUR empty tables. Displeased, I asked our server for the name of the restaurant's GM. I subsequently learned that our server then told the coordinator that I had asked for that information which prompted the coordinator to come to our table and handed me the GM's business card (she didn't offer me hers). With the smugness of someone who knows she can act with impunity, she invited me to call the GM to voice my complaint. When I mentioned the four empty tables, she explained that they were being held for regular customers who specifically requested them. Apparently, first-time guests don't count for much there. She also explained that SHE decided that we wouldn't like the only other available tables so she didn't ask us if we wanted to move to them (we would have appreciated being shown the respect of being able to make that decision ourselves). After falsely accusing me of "pointing my finger in her face" (I was again pointing to the man in the aisle) she said she was ending the conversation and walked away. My wife and I ate our dinners and left. The four tables were still empty.
