Needs a refresh. The Hotel in general looks tired.

For $55, I think it was okay, but not somewhere I would think about wanting to go again. The food selection was limited (not many choices), but it tasted good. I think I would rather go to the one at the Hilton Hotel even though it’s a bit more $. I had a better experience there.

My favorite place in Oahu. The location and the ambiance is spectacular. On Friday night, they host a buffet which is so delicious, so many choices, and reasonable at $90 a person. Service is always top-notch. You feel like you are in heaven.

I have been going the Plumeria Beach House for many years; maybe twice a year, for special occasions, usually birthdays. It is interesting that once the bill is paid and we linger to chat and enjoy the view, the wait help has never returned to ask if we want a refill to water or ice tea or anything else. In the past, the restaurant would present a complimentary dessert to my guest, whose birthday we were celebrating. On this occasion, nothing and no mention of her special day. I did note the birthday on my reservation. Guess times are hard for The Kahala too.

The dinner service was particularly disappointing, especially coming from guests who work in fine dining and are usually the most forgiving of minor slip-ups. Our 7pm reservation meant nothing. We were told they could not seat us on time due to an influx of customers. This is a clear failure to manage booking blocks or turn away walk-ins. Once seated, we were ignored for 10 minutes while watching everyone around us being served food and drinks. When our server finally arrived, there was no hospitality. There was no opening spiel and no menu explanation. Just a blunt, "hi do you know what you want?" He had ignored the notes provided on our ticket except for the anniversary. So when food was dropped at the table that one guest clearly from the notes couldn’t eat, they were still provided with cutlery and told specifically it was there in the event they wanted to try it. When entrees arrived, it was set on a server stand next to our table. This tray, that sits directly next to our table, was used all evening for dirty dishes and for bussing (which is another issue in itself that should be obvious: guests shouldn’t have to sit next to what is tantamount to a buss tub with flies all night). The server then WALKED AWAY to handle other tables issues, leaving our entrees to sit there for five minutes uncovered while we watched it die in front of us. When it was finally dropped off, there was no apology or explanation. I had to ask why the service was handled that way just out of pure curiosity to even get a response/acknowledgment from the waiter. I did not see the server again until the bill was dropped and not a single manager checked in. It was impossible not to feel like an inconvenience to the staff just by existing in the room.

Our server was very nice, but wait times to get served were a lot. Food was mediocre.
