Il Violino was established in 1993 by the Mariani family. They are from Villa Santa Maria, a little town in the heart of Italy (Abruzzo) known as La patria dei cuochi (chefs from this town have been executives at the Vatican, the White House, embassies and top restaurants and cruise lines around the world). Il Violino has been one of the original Lincoln Center Italian restaurants and, in these days, one of the few still in operation.
The chef Vincenzo Mariani, formerly the executive chef at Monsignore (one of the top restaurant in New York City in the 70’s and 80’s), leaded the kitchen with his international experience and created an original and innovative Italian menu.
In 2009 the owner, decided to write a new page. The restaurant has been transformed into a Trattoria: a warmer and cozier ambiance, one of those that you can easily find in any small town in Italy.

Top quality traditional Italian restaurant. Even the staff stay for years, sometimes decades. You can depend on having as fine a meal and dining experience a few years later as you had a few years before. My wife and I look forward to our next visit to this classic Italian.

Food is very good — well-prepared, perfect portions, good variety of Italian favorites and more. The service is also good, friendly, helpful, available but not hovering. Terrific choice for local UWS dining and close to Lincoln Center.

We were celebrating a 100th birthday. I had the chicken parm. It was delicious. One friend had a pasta dish and the other had fish. They both commented how good their selections were. The prefixed lunch was well worth the price. We each had soup or salad and a glass of wine in addition to our entrees. We each ordered dessert to.celebrate the birthday “girl.” We all left feeling very satisfied. I will definitely return.

Food was delicious. Ambience was elegant. We were not rushed. Very enjoyable for our for experience here.

Great food, portions were perfect. Our waiter was so accommodating and very nice. Nice pre or post show dining place.

The food was excellent. We got buffalo mozzarella the carrot soup, the gnocchi Bolognese. And the wine was excellent too. The waiter was very attentive and also hilarious. My date said he didn’t want cheese. He’s allergic to it and he managed to somehow make that a joke throughout the course of the meal.
