The cocktails were delicious but the food was over salted and not good. It’s very unfortunate that they are charging fine dining prices but delivering sub par quality food. The crab cakes were very fishy and the macaroni and cheese was 1 step from Kraft in a box. The steak was so salty it was inedible. I’m so sorry the quality of food has descended to such a low level. I remember when they opened, it was all about the food and now it’s not. Even the burger was super salty. I definitely don’t mind paying top dollar for good food but I felt totally scammed by the food that was served.

Our server and bartender were absolutely phenomenal- I would give them both little forehead kisses if I could. Food was also amazing- we got the gochujang salmon bites, the New York strip, bison meatloaf, and red kuri ravioli. Everything was fantastic

Right off the bat the photos and menu shown is not accurate. The dark speak easy vibes doesn’t open until 5 but there is a brunch menu and you can make reservations at 11. That’s actually for the other restaurant on the upper floor called Bodega. Which was still very cute. However, the menu was much smaller. Then there was only 2 coffee options and no creamer or flavors. The cold brew was not good. Then we were told the chef hadn’t arrived if we wanted to leave the coffee was on them. I guess someone finally showed up so we decided to order. They asked if we wanted everything to come out as it was ready and we say sure because it was already taking a while. Some meals were okay. Then my meal i was told they didn’t actually have brisket. I had to switch to bacon. The egg in the sandwich was somehow fried and boiled. it was so bad. Then an egg benny was taking forever cause they had to make the hollandaise. Well what they brought out was under cooked eggs with melted butter on top. I’m assuming the chef that did show didn’t know what they were doing fully, and was struggling while alone cause the head chef never showed.

It has been a few years since my initial visit here, which was absolutely amazing with very good food and drinks. Unfortunately, this time around was a completely different story. Both the food and drinks were below average. Even simple, four-ingredient gin drinks were made incorrectly, and the featured gin cocktails were way off from being anything enjoyable. The highlight of the night was the charcuterie board, but it was a shame without decent cocktails to accompany that palate. I really hope this was just an off night and not a permanent drop in their standards, as this place used to be fantastic.

Great speakeasy bar. Bartenders were cool; drinks were amazing. Speakeasy-wise … it’s kinda hidden, underground, and has a true SE vibe. You gotta go.

FAQs

Portions are generally satisfying for hearty mains, many guests rave that entrees like the beer-can chicken and steaks are generous and filling. That said, opinions vary: some guests found certain steaks or plated entrées smaller than expected for the price. Note that several sides are listed separately on the menu and some guests mentioned additional charges for sides.

Yes, The Rest is a popular date-night spot thanks to its moody, speakeasy vibe, vinyl-backed soundtrack and carefully crafted cocktails. Guests frequently praise the romantic, dimly lit subterranean dining room and standout dishes like the beer-can chicken and steaks. For a quieter, more intimate experience, aim for a midweek or earlier dinner; weekends can be lively and louder. Business-casual dress fits the mood.

The atmosphere is moody, intimate and vintage-speakeasy, dark wood, taxidermy, old books and vinyl spinning set a warm, nostalgic tone. Guests love the romantic, low-light vibe and curated music, though weekends and the upstairs bar can make it louder and more energetic. Overall it’s a cozy, design-forward spot ideal for date nights and relaxed conversations.

Busiest: Friday and Saturday evenings (late bar hours and DJs can make it lively). Quietest: midweek evenings and earlier dinner seatings are typically calmer and better for conversation. Brunch on weekends draws its own crowd, so expect busier weekend afternoons as well.

For a relaxed meal and smaller crowds, choose a weekday (Mon–Thu) or an early dinner on Sunday. If you want a more energetic night with DJs and a busier bar scene, go Friday or Saturday. Pick a midweek date night for the most intimate experience.

Yes, guests report the staff is accommodating with reservation changes and seating requests. It’s a good idea to call ahead for specific needs (seating preferences, dietary restrictions, or timing for long-prep items like the beer-can chicken which requires ~45–60 minutes). Note that some guests were not told when the kitchen was closing, so confirm any last‑minute food requests when you arrive.

For a quieter, more relaxed meal, midweek or earlier dinner seatings are best, guests note that weekdays feel less crowded and more intimate. If you want a lively night with full energy and DJs, Friday and Saturday are ideal but can be noisy and have waits. Arriving early or taking a bar seat can reduce wait times.

The dress code is business casual. Guests commonly dress up for date nights and special evenings, smart casual attire fits well with the restaurant’s moody, upscale speakeasy vibe.
