It's nice that the J Resort offers a 25% discount for locals, but otherwise this so-called "Italian Steak House" falls short of comparable Reno steakhouses. Our waiter was fine, but didn't appear to be as knowledgeable or experienced as at other establishments. All the steaks are just USDA choice, the wine list is much smaller, and our wines by the glass were warm. Given the seak options, I chose the bison short ribs and my wife had the brisket cannelloni. We enjoyed both, but the side of spinach in a cheesy cream sauce was more like a cream soup. Thankfully, our waiter removed that from the bill.

Overall everything was great! Food, service, drinks were all great. Only issue: every steak knife was dull. Once finally able to cut through the steak: delicious!

Once one of our favorite spots, but this visit was a little disappointing. Unfortunately, the service was lacking and often felt like “drive-by service,” with very little attention throughout our meal. As always, Jerry (busser) and Manager Pierre were excellent! They consistently provide outstanding hospitality and truly make guests feel valued. The food was still pretty good overall. The asparagus was a bit heavy on the sauce, and the creamed spinach seemed to be drowning in cream sauce. My filet was a very thick cut, and I wish our server had suggested butterflying it, which likely would have reduced the cooking time and helped it cook more evenly. Although my steak arrived undercooked, the kitchen promptly refired it without any issues. Manager Pierre personally apologized for the inconvenience and graciously offered dessert, which was greatly appreciated. His attentiveness, professionalism, and genuine concern for guest satisfaction continue to set the standard for excellent customer service. While this visit didn’t quite live up to our previous experiences, we appreciate how Pierre handled the situation and hope our next visit returns to the high standards we’ve come to expect.

I really feel Jake Paul’s as exquisite. I’ve only been here twice, but both of my meals were fabulous.. I have enjoyed the Sea-bass, and the salmon. I’ve also had bites of the ribeye, it is absolutely top-notch. And the seafood pasta is delicious. I was raising Italian kitchen. (My mother was Italian.) so maybe I’m a little bit prejudice. I love Italian food that’s done. I’ll say no more , they definitely hit the mark.

The staff were great and very attentive. Food was excellent (I had the surf-n-turf with prawns and my wife had a pasta dish). Wish we lived in Reno area. Will definitely eat there the next time we visit the Reno area.

I took my wife to J Pauls Steakhouse for a special date night after we had both had a rough week. I will say that the food was delicious. However, even though we were almost the only customers in the restaurant, it took over an hour to get our food and our server was more concerned with appearing charming with his one liner jokes than he was about treating us like paying customers. His attitude was very disingenuous and more about getting on to someone else. Again, the quality of the food was top notch. However considering the bill before tip was $215 for only my wife and I, it was absolutely not worth it. I have no problem spending money for good food and experience. However, we both left feeling like we had been scammed. Which is unfortunate. We were both looking forward to the adventure of trying a new restaurant and it means a lot to me to take care of my wife and give her a special night.

For a quieter experience, book an early dinner or a weekday night, guests often note early seatings are less busy. Weekends, holidays and nights with large parties or events tend to be louder and busier. J Paul’s offers several seating areas: a main dining room with booths and tables, a bar/lounge, and at least one named room (American West room) and meeting/connected rooms that guests mention. The restaurant does not advertise private-party bookings online, so if you need a dedicated private room or special layout, call ahead to confirm availability.

Busiest: weekend evenings, holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year) and nights with large parties or events. Quietest: early dinner seatings and some weekday nights, many guests recommend going early if you prefer a calmer experience.

Yes, J Paul’s is a popular choice for date night. If you need seating preferences, dietary accommodations, or want to request a preferred server, call the restaurant ahead of your reservation to ensure they can accommodate.

Families do dine here, guests frequently bring teens, celebrate birthdays, and report family dinners. Steak cuts range from 8–22 oz on the menu, so plan for a substantial main course and consider sharing sides.

The restaurant recommends reservations, guests report busy nights, especially on weekends and holidays. While there isn’t a published waitlist policy, expect possible waits during peak times; calling ahead or booking a reservation is the best way to avoid delays.
