Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind @michelinguide recommended omakase experience at @satoomakase @sushisatosf! One of my favorite omakases in San Francisco. 📍 Sato Omakase, San Francisco, CA 🐟 Fresh cuts of fish from all over the world including Japan, New Zealand, and Spain! 👨‍🍳 Intimate chef counter with only 14 seats each night. Our sushi chef @aidenwang1987 made each piece perfectly seasoned and flavorful. 🍸Delicious mocktail and cocktail menu, along with sake selection. Try the sake pairing if you want an adventure! 💵 Enjoy an 18 course omakase like this menu for only $195 per person! Add additional supplements like the A5 Wagyu Truffle bowl for $35 of the Uni Truffle Bowl for $55. 💻 Book on @opentable today! 🗓️ #sffoodie #sffood #sffoodies #sanfrancisco #sanfranciscofoodie #sanfranciscofoodies #sanfranciscoeats #sanfranciscorestaurants #sfeats #sfeater #bayareafoodie #bayareafood #bayareafoodies #omakase #omakaselover #sushi #sushilover #sushilove #sushiporn #omakase #bayareaeats

I would have loved to gate-keep this spot but it's way too good to not share. @sushisatosf is located SF and is the sister restaurant to Sato Omakase ( it's actually right next to each other) they have a prestigious ala carte menu that varies from sashimi, donburi, and rolls. If you love sushi, you definitely need to check them out. 📍 @sushisatosf This is some of the BEST SUSHI I’VE HAD IN THE BAY AREA. Sushi Sato is the perfect spot for a fancier, upscale sushi night. The interior is super modern and sleek (with a super sweet bar), and the staff treats you like royalty. The sushi here is definitely elevated—good quality pieces of fresh fish topped with caviar, uni, wagyu beef, and lobster. Each bite looks incredible and tastes even better. Their cocktails are super unique, and pair really well with the sushi. Definitely save room for desserts too! Everything was top notch. Our Order: - Fatty Tuna Uni Truffle Bowl - Crab Miso Risotto - Bamboo Design Roll - Sato Signature Roll - Sashimi Moriwamasen - Chicken Karrage - Shrimp Tempura - Bincho Tataki - Sato Salad - Kiku - Kisetsu - Avo-Cotta

Honestly I could’ve been satisfied with just sitting there and drinking water because Alan’s service was IMPECCABLE but the two apps we tried were unbelievably delicious. my boyfriend ordered the tempura shrimp that had a great flavor for the outside breading and i ordered the avocado bomb which just melts in your mouth. one of the best spicy salmons i’ve ever tasted. we had originally come for drinks and apps but there was no bartender, Alan made sure to apologize profusely and his amazing waiting skills made up for it! whatever he’s making they need to double it honestly. at the end of the night he brought out a slice of cheesecake for our anniversary and offered us hot tea. honestly 12/10 experience i will be coming back with my sushi loving mother and we will be trying out some of their rolls soon!

I had the best spicy tuna roll and gyoza of my life. The beer brewed in house was great. The service was great as well. I will definitely go back again to try the crab risotto and the sashimi.

Great experience with really delicious sushi and other unique dishes. Allan showed us the Omakase bar and speakeasy. We’ll definitely return for Omakase in the future.

When we took our first bites we looked at each other with wide eyes and said "This is SO good!" The flavors and attention to detail in each dish are exceptional. This compares to a much more expensive omakase dinner we had. Every bite was a taste explosion. The staff was very attentive and informative. Loved it!

The owner openly berrated and chastised and disrespected his staff in front of us while we sat at the bar. The restaurant is acutely understaffed. The Only bartender who doubled as host and server was woefully in need of help. There were flys all over the bar and landing on our plates while we ate Sushi. The food itself was okay but all preparation was behind closed doors in the kitchen. With the fly situation, we became worried about the cleanliness that we couldn’t see in the kitchen with raw fish. I will never return to this establishment, nor would we recommend it to anyone.

FAQs

Aim for an early dinner (around 5:00–6:00 pm) on a weekday for a quieter, more relaxed experience, several guests noted arriving early and having the place mostly to themselves. Weekends and special nights (omakase evenings, NYE) fill up and can feel hectic or short-staffed, so reserve ahead. If safety in the Tenderloin is a concern, plan for a rideshare home.

Yes, families do dine here, and staff have gone out of their way to welcome children (mocktails, birthday treats). The menu focuses on sushi, tastings and a la carte Japanese dishes rather than a dedicated kids’ menu, so bringing familiar snacks or choosing early seating can help. The counter-style omakase may be best for older kids who will enjoy the experience.

Family-friendly: yes, guests report bringing children (including a 7-year-old) and staff going out of their way to welcome families with small gestures like mocktails and birthday desserts. Accessible seating: not specified in the available information. If accessibility needs are important, call ahead to confirm seating options and any accommodations before your visit.

Business casual. Guests typically dress smart-casual for the chic yet relaxed sushi bar and dining room, a good balance for date nights or evenings out at the whiskey bar.

Busiest: weekend nights, omakase and special-event evenings (NYE), those nights can become crowded or feel short-staffed. Quietest: early weekday dinners or an early Friday/Saturday seating around 5–5:30 pm; several guests reported quieter, more relaxed visits at those times. Always reserve for popular time slots to secure the experience you want.

They have hosted special holiday services (guests reported a New Year’s Eve tasting), so Sushi Sato does operate on at least some holidays. Holiday hours can vary and popular nights may be busier or run special tasting menus, call ahead or check the reservation platform for holiday availability and menu details.

Yes, Sushi Sato is a popular choice for a date night thanks to its intimate, chic vibe, chef’s tastings and an award-winning cocktail program. Guests frequently praise the omakase/tasting experience, attentive service and handcrafted drinks, making it ideal for a special evening. Note: music can be loud at times and the Tenderloin location makes many guests choose rideshares instead of walking at night; reservations and an early seating help ensure a smooth, romantic visit.

Sushi Sato is described as modern, chic and vibey, a refined but casual sushi spot with a lively whiskey bar and crafted cocktails. Guests praise the clean, stylish decor and friendly staff; some call it intimate and perfect for dates. Caveats: music volume can be high for some, and a few guests mentioned the Tenderloin surroundings affecting the overall feel, so plan accordingly.

Midweek (Tue–Thu) or an early-weekend early seating tends to offer the best balance of service and atmosphere. Guests often enjoy quieter weekday evenings; Friday and Saturday can run late and busier, while special nights (like NYE) may be crowded or strained by staffing. Reserve ahead and try a weekday dinner for a calmer experience.
