All very good from food to service. Exceptionally great staff who ran a 1/2 block after me to return my handbag which I left hanging on the back of my chair. Very kind and so appreciative of their kindness.

The food at Thanal is always amazing, and the atmosphere is fantastic. The staff attentiveness could use some improvement, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. I also recognize that some of my service expectations come from a more Western perspective, so overall I have nothing but praise for the experience.

Consistently one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the City! Some dishes are a bit pricey, but my Indian friends agree this is worth going to as well. Last time I went it was my companion's first time and despite constantly sweating and crying from the spice he loved every bite!

Staff wasn't bad, I'm thinking we were time limited and, to be fair, I probably could have done a better job of letting them know. Food was wonderful. Large portions. I'm of European background and my team is mostly of Indian origin and we all really like this place. The environment is loud with many hard surfaces that made conversation difficult amongst 12 of us at a table. A table of 2 or 4 should not have this difficulty.

The noise level and service are a problem when the restaurant was as crowded as last night but the food was better than ever

FAQs

Yes, Thanal Indian Tavern is a cozy, casual spot that many guests recommend for date night thanks to flavorful food, creative cocktails and an intimate tavern vibe. Expect lively energy (it can get loud when busy), warm service, and standout dishes like Garlic Naan, Butter Chicken and Chicken 65. For a quieter evening, choose an early seating or a weekday night. The bar program and signature cocktails also make it a fun choice for couples.

The best time is weekday lunch or an early weekday dinner when it tends to be quieter. Weekends and restaurant-week events are popular and can be lively and loud; guests report lines and a busy bar on weekend evenings. If you prefer a calmer meal, aim for an early seating on a weekday and consider reservations.

Thanal has a lively, tavern-style atmosphere, warm, casual and energetic. Guests describe it as fun and cozy for catching up with friends or a date night, but it can get loud when busy due to hard surfaces and a bustling crowd. Expect welcoming service, an upbeat bar vibe and authentic, vibrant flavors.

Thanal Indian Tavern serves lunch daily and evening dinner service. Lunch: Daily 11:30 AM–2:30 PM. Dinner: Monday–Thursday 5:00 PM–9:30 PM; Friday–Saturday 5:00 PM–10:00 PM; Sunday 5:00 PM–8:45 PM. Check ahead for special hours or holiday changes.

Portions at Thanal are generous, guests frequently say dishes are plentiful and great for sharing or taking home leftovers. Many people mention ample servings for curries and appetizers (for example, Chicken 65 and Fish 65 get repeat praise). If you’re dining with a group, ordering several mains and naans to share is a good plan.

Weekdays (especially weekday lunch or an early weekday dinner) are the best choice for a quieter experience. If you want the lively crowd, weekend evenings are energetic and fun but busier. Reservations are a good idea for weekend visits or larger groups.

Yes, guests report that staff are accommodating and helpful with special requests, dietary needs and seating adjustments. It’s a good idea to call ahead for accessibility needs, large-group arrangements, or specific menu requests so the team can prepare and make your visit smoother.

Generally yes, families and groups with teens often dine here, and guests report the staff as friendly and accommodating. The menu is flavorful and can be spicy, so younger children may prefer milder dishes or early seating. There isn’t a dedicated kids’ menu, so call ahead if you need milder preparations.

Busiest: weekend evenings and restaurant-week events, guests report lines, a full bar and a loud dining room. Quietest: weekday lunch and early weekday dinners tend to be calmer. If you prefer a more relaxed meal, aim for weekday hours or an early seating.

Casual dress is appropriate, guests typically come in relaxed attire. The restaurant lists a casual dress code and operates as a neighborhood tavern-style spot, so comfortable, smart-casual clothing fits well for date nights, groups or quick lunches.

Yes, guests have reported dining outside and enjoying the outdoor experience when available. Outdoor seating may be seasonal and can offer a quieter option on nice days; call ahead to confirm availability if outdoor dining is important to your visit.
