   Some of the food was inventive and delicious and some was not well thought out and wasn't that good. Butternut squash soup, which should be an easy, good dish was inedible, but the salmon was delicious. The brussel sprouts were great, but the beet salad-- not so much. It's incredibly noisy so don't expect to be able to talk to your dining companions. And bring your credit cards-- it's over the top expensive for many of the dishes.

   We opted for the chefs menu. We were not disappointed! Three course option and split a dessert, amazing!!!

   We were not disappointed. Red Cat Kitchen was the "special" dinner for the six of us vacationing on Martha's Vineyard. We were presented with minimalist menus which our friendly, funny, knowledgeable waitress was easily capable of deciphering. She helped us make the right decisions all around. Everything was delicious, from the scallops to salmon, grouper to pork shanks. Don't forget to make a reservation.

   We have been to all the great Vineyard restaurants over many years (State Road, Beach Road, Sweet Life, Alchemy, Port Hunter, Beach Plum Inn, Outermost Inn . . . you get the picture.) The food at Red Cat Kitchen outshines them all. The only negative is that the food is way too good for the space. The fact that it is rustic (jelly jars for water glasses, etc. ) is not the issue - it is way too cramped, with hard, uncomforatble chairs that does not do justice to enjoying the amazing meal. Despite that quibble, all I can say is GO!

   I was overall very disappointed with the experience this past weekend. We have followed this chef from his original incarnation to the current one and this left a bad taste in my mouth. First off, we had 8pm reservations and weren't seated until 8:50. The hostess was rude and appeared overwhelmed. As far as the foood goes, the appetizers were delicious and exceeded the high standard the chef has set. The main courses, however, were uninspiried and seemed to be slapped together. The steaks were undercooked, the flavors in the sides were not balanced. The tuna was sitting in a soupy broth and had little flavor. For the prices he is charging, I expected better and will hesitate to visit again. Pluses - appetizers excellent, server was pleasant and friendly. Minuses - Long wait with reservation, rude hostess and uninspired main dishes.

   We had dinner on Sunday night of Labor Day weekend. The restaurant was packed, people lingered, our table was not ready, because the people prior to us didn't wish the meal to end, and I perfectly understand having had our meal. We had four adults, with 2 appetizers and 4 entries. Each dish was as good the next, and none of the could come close to being a disappointment. They were perfection. The kitchen produced consistently wonderful food, the wait staff was wonderful, the hostess had a job that I would not want, keeping people apprised of their table status, but she did a wonderful job. We were seated next to the kitchen, which usually I do not enjoy, but watching the symphony of a well oiled staff could produce, it was a pleasure to see food coming out of the kitchen. Bravo to the kitchen staff as well.

   Consistently good food. Fresh. Flavorful. Delicious combinations but nothing too fancy. Good discerning wine choices. Really laid back ambience. The tempura vegetable dish and the island fresca soup I could eat every night!

   Friendly server. Fun atmosphere. Food was delicious. Must order the blackened brousel sprouts which were awesome (and I normally would never order). The fried calamari with buffalo sauce was perfectly cooked tender. Entrees were crazy expensive so we ordered different appetizers for dinner and shared with a great bottle of wine. Worth the visit!

    If you are coming to MV for a summer vacation, the Red Cat is a must. The chef always brings his best and I've never had a bad meal. The really f*cking good brussel sprouts always live up to their name. The chefs selection is a great way to go as well. Fried chicken is amazing. Truly can't go wrong with any dish. Service is friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. Best restaurant in MV.
