The restaurant seemed understaffed. We had to ask several times for things like water and our order was not taken down properly. One dish came out right away and then the rest we waited almost an hour for. We were dining with an infant and two toddlers so the wait made the meal difficult to get through and enjoy. Owner/manager apologized for wait but, did not offer any kind of compensation. For a supposedly kid friendly restaurant, it was also ill equipped with necessities (e.g. no change table, only two high chairs for the entire restaurant.)¿Te fue útil?

Father’s Day. I made a reservation via OpenTable a week before and received confirmation via email. When we arrived, they didn’t have our reservation. I had to show the front desk my confirmation email and on my Open table app. I was asked several tones for my name and phone # and said they didn’t have my reservation. I showed them the confirmation email again, and they got us a table. Food was good. Annoying when they collect and pile the serving dishes while you’re still eating, but we tried to ignored it and had a good time. Nice ambiance and decor. Clean. Good food.¿Te fue útil?

The food is excellent. Problem is the restaurant is so packed due to poor placement of tables. We were seated in the middle of the left rows of tables. In order to get to the table, we had to walk all the way back and then double backed. Bear in mind, this is how the servers are moving around too as well. At some point after we sat down, the place was so packed even the server could not bring our food over. So you could imagine how long and difficult it would be to get the server’s attention. Don’t get me wrong though. The food is excellent. There is no denial about that.¿Te fue útil?

A lovely place with lovely people. That being said, I can honestly say that the myth that “ to experience true Chinese cuisine “ you should travel to the nether regions of our city and taste the offerings of Richmond Hill is untrue. My wife and I understand and love true Chinese cuisine. Every region has a distinct taste and we appreciate it. Like I mentioned, Yu Gardens is a lovely establishment with humble, adequate service, but, unless you live in the area , stay in the city and enjoy comparable, even tastier cuisine . Not exclusive to Yu Gardens and quite frankly a trait of our experience with outside reservations, I mentioned on booking that this was a “ special occasion “. For the record.....there was no mention of it at all during our meal. Disappointed¿Te fue útil?

Loved the small soup dumplings; best quality we’ve tasted so far! Tried the giant soup dumplings but were not impressed at all. Shanghai noodles were very good too; not too saucy like other places. Small place, tons of people waiting so reservation is a must!A 1 persona le resultó útil

Lucky we had made a reservation via open table, we don’t need to wait outside in the cold for a table. However, the 8 of us are sat at the very back of the restaurant. It’s sooooo hot being near the kitchen and the heat. I was sweating badly. The weather outside was -10C, but at my table, it feels like 26C. And near the end of our lunch, they have opened something in the kitchen which emits bad smell out. Food was as good as always. Next time we will say no to the table closest to the kitchen.... yucks!¿Te fue útil?

Service was really good here and the menu selection is also pretty good. This was my third time here and it was a for a family event. I like the food here. Two things to note from a previous experience is: the giant soup dumpling is not amazing aside from the picture-taking opportunity, and they do not have the sweet sauce for the stinky tofu, just spicy sauce. Word to the wise that there are perhaps only a few round tables at Yu Garden and they are not large enough to accomodate a group of 15. I think the biggest table fits perhaps 12 and that is a squeeze. Sitting us at a long group of rectangle tables made it difficult to order food and in the end, we had to order two sets of the 6-person meal and added additional a la carte items to make it easier whereas if sharing food was easier, we likely would have ordered entirely from the a la carte menu. Last thing to note is that the set meals are cash only and no further discounts are applicable. I asked if their VIP card would be useable towards the a la carte items and the answer was yes. At the end, I couldn't use the VIP card at all. It doesn't make a big difference at the end of the day and on the receipt, but just so you are aware!¿Te fue útil?
