   The food was excellent. And the location in the middle of town was great. Not much of an atmosphere... but we were sitting by the front window so not sure that it mattered. Definitely worth a visit.

   Fantastic location, right in the middle of Carmel. Charming decor is enticing. But the food falls short, particularly at the price. Well, the price isn't too surprising given the location, but I really wish that ceviche was really a true ceviche, instead of cooked octopus and shrimp in a sauce. Hand-made tortillas are ok.

   We sat near the kitchen and immediately noticed the smell of old cooking oil. Service was great but there are just much better options for mexican food in the area.

   My husband and I both enjoyed our meal, but it was very overpriced for what we ordered. Service wasn't outstanding. Would go elsewhere next time we're in Carmel.

   Our dinner at Villa Sombreros was just average and probably fine for a quick meal. We were hoping for more since there are only a couple Mexican restaurants in town and they could kill it. We were all looking for an awesome margarita but unfortunately they don’t have a liquor license yet, just beer and wine. The service was great but we probably won’t be back since the food was uninspiring. Juan, our server, was very nice and professional.

   This was our second visit to Villa Sombreros. This visit was our first for dinner. It was very noisy in the restaurant, I could not hear the waiter unless he spoke up. Maybe some fabric panels on the wall or ceiling would help. As people left it got better. We love the artwork on the walls and the decor! The woman hand making the tortillas so we can watch is a fun touch! The waiters go to her to plate them for their tables! This chips are standard for a good Latin/Mexican restaurant. The salsa is very tasty 😋 It looked as if they were short-staffed that night. Our waiter did an excellent job for appearing to have the responsibility of every table in the restaurant. It looked as though there was only one other person to clear tables and fill drinks...plus a bartender. I had to ask for a glass of water 3 times. I think the rule in Carmel to have to ask for a glass of water before you can have any is short-sighted, especially in a walking environment like Carmel, and especially on warm days! Small glasses are acceptable! The food was wonderful. It’s a little greasy - but the flavors are very tasty and the presentation is very nice. We had the “Hector’s Toothpicks” for an appetizer- there are 4 good sized flour tortillas - for us it was practically a meal for two. Very tasty! For our main meal we both had Chicken and Rajas Tostadas. Also very tasty but a bit on the greasy side. I think I would rather it taste more of fresh crunchy veggies than what I got. Our first visit was for lunch. I had the Guadalajara Tacos which were delicious! I don’t remember what my husband had. That day was slower and the service was excellent, the wait staff was very friendly, and we loved the food. We are locals here and we like Villa Sombreros very much. It is one of four Mexican-style restaurants in Carmel/Pacific Grove that we will return to for a casual night out to satisfy our craving for authentic and tasty Mexican/Latin American food!

   I come from Houston so I am a bit of a Mexican food snob. Villa Sombreros was more authentic Mexican versus most the Tex-Mex we get here. Everything was extremely well executed. Portions were large and prices very reasonable. We got excellent service from the staff and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We will make sure to have return visit when we come back to Carmel. They do use a tequila blend with sake that made a margarita that my wife did not care for, so be forewarned.

   Probably the second best Mexican food we've had outside of Mexico. The guacamole is hand made by mortar and pestle at your table. The tortilla are hand made fresh each day, salsa and sauces spiced In balance with only fresh ingredients. The carnitas are served in an iron skillet with ample sides of cream fresh, salsa, more guacamole, whole beans and rice. You are leaving the Villa hungry. The server was pleasant, a good server. The decor fun and inviting. Make a reservation as for dinner it can get crowded, the place is rather small. The size makes it intimate and inviting. Beer and wine only; but, I'm told the wine margaritas are pretty good. I prefer beer with my Mexican food.

    Great casual place to grab a bite in Carmel. Guacamole is superior, service is personable and prompt. Only thing that would be better is to take their homemade tortillas and make the chips. A very enjoyable experience
