Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 14 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 50 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

On Saturday 26th April, the fiery island flavours of Soho’s Paradise and Dom Fernando will take over the kitchens of Updown. With a menu inspired by his Sri Lankan heritage, Dom’s menu will celebrate the best of British and Sri Lankan produce for a contemporary twist on Sinhalese cuisine. The menu is: Kentish Strawberry Rasam, Calamansi Leaf Oil Kimbula Banis, Date & Lime Chutney, Neal's Yard Corra Lin Ulunu Vaadi Doughnuts, Cashew Cream, Seeni Sembol Southern Style Saffron & Turmeric Dahl Aubergine & Rainforest Jaggery Mojo Grilled Leek Skewers, Mango Chutney, Seaweed Butter Steak, Jaffna-Style Sunflower Seed and Bone Marrow Curry Seared Hand Dived Orkney Scallop, Cornish Lobster Kiri-Hodi, Wild Garlic Oil Coconut Kiri-Bath Leicestershire Paneer & Hampshire Tunworth Cream, Caramelised White Chocolate Ice Cream, Coconut Roti Crisp All dining is for communal tables and everyone will be served together, with guests invited to sit from 7pm and dinner served from 7.30pm. Excellent food in a lovely setting. Great service and friendly staff. Very smoky from the grill, but that didn’t really bother us - seems from reviews that others were not so keen on it..!

Perhaps it’s because we had high hopes this place would be good given it was recommended by someone in the food industry… however, it was quite disappointing, the food was average at best and each dish felt flat, underwhelming. Worst of all, the mackerel dish was undercooked and had a tummy ache a few hours later. The grounds and gardens were not interesting and left me wanting more. Overall experience left me wanting more but not from here unfortunately.

So glad this is now open every weekday. It's a beautiful room in a glorious garden and the set menu is fine dining at pub food prices: £35 for three delicious, thoughtful and well-balanced courses (plus a delicious piece of oil-drenched focaccia to begin). On a sunny spring day, who could hope for more?

Great food & service in the refurbished dining room, ‘though sadly let down by the extraction fans that were insufficient to stop a general fug covering the whole area.

Had a wonderful birthday evening at Updown with 2 friends to celebrate the event. A limited set menu on Wednesday but I prefer a pared down choice and although a steak evening I was offered either fish or vegetarian options as eat a pescatarian diet. Superb focaccia and asparagus soup to die for. I also had a generous hake main course. The panettone was fine but no so keen on desert and a birthday candle was added: a fun touch! Btw the steaks did smell tasty!

All perfect. Delicious food, beautiful space and perfect service! Love the young vine growing accross the ceiling, gardens in the sunshine so gorgeous.
