The Umami Café provides a place for you to relax and reflect during your visit at the Japanese Garden.
With a design reminiscent of Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-dera temple, the Umami Café floats over the hillside and provides views of the area’s natural beauty.
Here, you will experience world class Japanese tea paired with local, hand-crafted Japanese confectionaries.

Please note, Garden admission or membership is required to visit Umami Café. Currently, the Garden is not accepting cash until further notice.

So glad I made reservations. I enjoyed amazing tea with traditional delicacies while taking in the beautiful view outside. Very romantic<3. Very very good service as well. And not as expensive as I anticipated at all!

It was absolutely lovely! Staff was very nice; the teas and small bites were very delicious. I hope anyone planning to go there treats it as the zen experience that it can be (and was for us!) by keeping voices low. We appreciated others doing the same. That makes for such a lovely time in that little "treehouse"! ;) We look forward to going again!

An oasis of calm in a crazy world. The tea and cake selections are limited but wonderful, and the staff makes you feel like you're their only customer.

The cafe just sits right at the top of the entrance, after a 5 min hike. Reservation is a must.

Worth the wait, worth walking around outside in the rain. Absolutely worth it all around. The cafe is so simple in design. I enjoyed every single aspect of the food and the tea. Wonderful. Oh my, and the popcorn was lightly dusted with salt and wasabi powder. So yummy. I wish they sold it.

Scrolling the magnificent Portland Japanese Garden and finishing with tea at the cafe is a beautiful experience unlike any other. Can’t wait to return.

Sitting on the Cafe balcony is an amazing way to relax and take in the forest after walking around the garden. The tea sets are delicious and a sweet way to end your visit. Make sure to stop by on your next visit!
