About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for groups
Tujague's is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans. This French Quarter institution has been serving traditional New Orleans cuisine to locals and visitors alike for more than 160 years.

Lore states that brunch originated here, as did the Grasshopper cocktail. Homages to the restaurant's long and colorful history abound within the interior of the building from the classic 19th century architecture to memorabilia on the walls.

Menu items such as the seared gulf fish and the daily gumbo meld French traditions with New Orleans fare and flare. Our famous five course menu is still served nightly; but have no fear, the menu is no longer pre-fixe, so those less ravenous diners can join in too.

If you want a quintessential New Orleans experience filled with history and local fare, Tujague's is your place.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Gus Martin

From the OpenTable editors: It’s the second-oldest restaurant in New Orleans, with the claim to fame of inventing brunch—and some even say it’s haunted. Welcome to Tujague’s, founded by French immigrants in 1856, and still letting the good times roll for more than 160 years. Today it’s a slice of history in the French Quarter, filled with mirrors, chandeliers, and a collection of 6,000 mini liquor bottles. Don’t miss the spicy shrimp remoulade, boiled brisket, and grasshopper cocktail, another house original.

If you prefer quieter dinning as I do upstairs is the place to be. If you prefer noise and busy the first floor is the place to be. Service and food were great. I had the drum fish and it was perfect:

Great service and great food. The Gumbo a bit salty for me.

It was a 3-course meal for easter Sunday. The soup was good but not hot, the crab cakes were dry and over cooked, and they ran out of creme broulee so I had the hard as a rock strawberry hand pie. I was very disappointed. I enjoyed the food from the weekend before at French quarter fest.

Easter Brunch was lovely. Tomatoes and crayfish bisque was exceptional (lukewarm but was heated upon request); drum almondine was good ( prefer redfish or trout but understand was Easter special); berry pie was lovely. Ordered house champagne and not exorbitantly priced and presented well. Everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed the meal and portions were generous.

We have had a good experience when the restaurant is not busy, however on holidays, with a fix menu, service is bad, food is cold and on top of it, at the end they couldn’t fulfill our desert choice.

We went for Easter brunch. It took an hour and 45 minutes from being seated to getting the check. The servers were nice and did their best, but we were told that orders were backed up in the kitchen. There was a fixed brunch menu. The food wasn't bad; it just wasn't up to the standards of a long-time N.O restaurant.

Went for Easter brunch- 3 course prix fixe menu. Seated early which was a plus. Food was very good, boudin balls, tomato crawfish bisque, crab cakes, filet, crème brûlée. The strawberry hand pie was a letdown in that it was fried way too much. The other sad thing was the service; the waitress did check on us once, but we were never asked if we wanted another drink or more water….or coffee with our dessert. Maybe it was due to it being Easter and they were trying to turn the tables over quickly? Based on the food, I’d go back to try on a non-holiday, but if the service remains the same, I’d skip it in the future.

Cheryl, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! Yes, Easter is tricky as we are serving a lot at once & we do not have the bandwith to serve 400+ perfectly, but we try our best. Thank you for your patience. I hope you get the chance to visit us another time so you can enjoy our comforting hospitality. Best, Tujague's

We were a little hesitant to eat here wondering if it would be too touristy with overpriced food, given the high profile French Quarter location, but we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was quietly elegant, even romantic, without being stuffy, and the food was so good we almost went back a second night. Highly recommend the boudin balls and redfish and shrimp. The creme brulee was some of the best I've ever had and the bread pudding was also top notch. We really feel like this restaurant gave us the Old World Classic New Orleans experience we were seeking!
