In the late nineties, a beautiful event planner from Brittany met a young, American chef from New York. Before long they married and their union produced first a daughter and then a culinary revolution in Brooklyn, New York. Locals flocked to Loulou, their first French bistro, as much for chef Bill's lusty cuisine, as Christine's gracious charm. Before long, Loulou beget Cocotte, another French eatery that drew crowds. Other chefs followed them, lining the streets near the Snells' restaurants with all manner of eateries.

The couple turned their sights on a life-long dream: to own an inn and restaurant in Vermont. The Snells purchased the well-regarded Roland's Place in New Haven, Vermont in July 2009, changing its name to Tourterelle to reflect its romantic theme as a serene restaurant, inn, and venue for special occasions.

we loved celebrating our daughter's 21st with you. The oysters were the best we've had and the bread was to die for. Loved the fish stew and the agnolotti. The chef was kind enough to make a special vegan, gluten free meal for our daughter and to allow us to bring in a special cake. Food was outstanding and the service and ambience amazing!

Have been going here for years. Christine is a wonderful host and the service and food were outstanding as usual. Always feel at home here and it is a place we love to go when our family wants a special dinner out. My daughter had the steak frites and I had the chicken "schnitzel" - both perfect. Dessert & drinks were fabulous. Service was on point - efficient & friendly but unobtrusive. Will be back very soon!

Had not been here since the pandemic and the remodel. It was great. Simply great. Will definitely be going more often. Really great.

Tourterelle is a little hidden treasure. The restaurant is located in a grand old building just a few miles north of Middlebury, the dining room itself, with subdued lighting, is tastefully appointed and characterized by a quiet informal elegance. The hostess who met us at the door (the wife of the chef and owner) was a lovely young woman, warm and gracious and welcoming. The service was good and the food, from start to finish, excellent. The bouibaisse was out of this world.
