   Had Christmas lunch menu December 2017, Xmas Menu. 2 course starter & main with mince pie and coffee or tea for £1 extra. We all went for the starter of prawn cocktail starter and Carvery main. But that where it all started. Prawn cocktail served wth beautiful fresh bread, but with MARGERINE not BUTTER. Very disappointing. Next was the carvery, I choose Beef, although I asked for it to be carved from the other end as they were in the middle of the joint and it was very rare and also full of fat, in fact the person carving the meet was told by another server, to just pull it. And that's what was put on my plate, to my horroor, I asked for it to be replaced as I cannot eat much fat due to digestive disorder which prevents me from consuming excess fat. I actually asked after It was handed to me forThe beef to be replaced and each time I asked, I was ignored after saying excuse me can you replace my b after each four more customers were served. It was replaced but not with any appologies in fact the server was very belittleing. I actually felt like A fool. My dinner now stone cold after waiting so long, then there was no gravy and no canberry, mint or horseradish sauce only scrapings on the bottom. There were no Christmas crackers on the tables, but our waitress managed to find us a few, and then it was time for mince pie and coffee, only there wasn't any mince pies left. Even though we were having our meal at 12.30 pm which was quite early in the day we were asked if we would like to order off the desert menu which we did not, we had a Starter & Main so that we could have mince pie & coffee for desert. What a disaster.. I suggest that the Toby resturaunts should not be advertising Special Festive season menus if they cannot fulfill the requirement of the diner. I had a beautiful Christmas lunch last year at the cockellshell, after this years it will definitely be the last time we visit the cockleshell.

   Very busy but table on time and food was fresh. Staff v helpful and friendly atmosphere

   The food is absolutely outstanding. The meat is cooked 100% lovely. There is one gentleman there that me and my partner see every time we come and he is so polite, he doesn’t get enough credit for what he does he should go further , he is always smiling 100% and always asks how we’re getting on and even offers to refuil our drinks even though it’s all you can drink with the refil glass and we could do it independent . But he is absolutely fantastic, I don’t know his name but he wears glasses and he’s got a beautiful smile. So polite and doesn’t stop, we always give him a tip because of how well he does. The food is lovely and it’s even good for vegiterians because there’s so much choice of veg etc! It’s perfect for any kind of meal. You can even have salad there. It’s just amazing.

   You either love or hate carvery's and we love them. As good as most carvery we had the usual veritable meat feast. Worth a visit if you are into the roast meal.

   Food fine, disappointed to have booked through open table to turn up and they had no booking at restaurant for us. Had to wait which defeats the object really!
