About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Great for outdoor dining
  • Good for special occasions
Tucked away next to the Thompson Hanson nursery Tiny Boxwoods is a chef driven restaurant that believes in food that feels fresh, rustic and beautiful. We enjoy small menus featuring "from scratch" cooking. Our produce and fish are delivered fresh every single day and we make almost everything we serve in house all the way down to the honey we get from our own bees. Our flatbreads on our meat & cheese board, our house made pizzas, and the day’s catch are just a few items that are prepared each night in our wood burning oven. We are passionate about our food, but we feel even stronger about providing our guests with exceptional service from a well-mannered and smiling staff and don’t leave without trying one of our famous chocolate chip cookies!

This was our last meal before heading to the hospital for a scheduled deliver of our first child. The staff was fantastic. Food amazing. Service from Nathan was great. This is one of the best restaurants in Houston.

Ambiance and service were good but food was horrible The tuna crudo was really over salted watermelon crudo and filet mignon with risotto came with an exceedingly sweet sauce. Not sure why one would think that combo would taste good. The risotto was more like porridge Won’t be back for dinner anytime soon☹️

Have been here several times and food has always been very good. HOWEVER, this last visit two of us ordered the grouper entree. BOTH arrived at the table very, very raw. Both were sent back and cooked properly for round two. I am not one to send food back but this was almost lose your appetite gross and it took awhile to get our food back out. By then, we were pretty much over eating. Honestly, the manager made it more unappetizing. She brought our recooked food and never addressed or apologized for the mishap. This left us with the impression that "You have a lot of nerve sending your food back".......Well it was RAW. I will go back it's just going to be awhile for this memory to fade..... shame.

This was my first time at Tiny Boxwoods. I have been to Tiny's No. 5 for lunch once before and really enjoyed it. When you walk in it looks really neat...kind of like a little oasis tucked away behind all of these vines and greenery. We asked to be seated inside, but when we got in there, there was an enormous table full of multiple families with children running around just wild. So we looked at the seating hostess and were like maybe outside instead? Then we were seated in the very corner of the patio by the service door and next to the loudest box fan in the entire world. The thing was clunking the entire night. It is just unfortunate because the place is beautiful and I feel like literally any other table would have been great (outside of the screaming running children issue). The service was very slow. The guy was nice, but it took a long time to even have our order taken. Drinks were slow at the beginning, food was slow all night. When the food made it to our table, the pizza was cold (probably because it had been sitting out so long to be taken to the table) and the ice cream on our dessert was literally like ice cream soup after it had melted. We ordered a bottle of wine mid meal and it also took quite some time to come out to us. We could see it sitting up on the bar ready to be delivered to the table (and getting warm). I almost just got up and got it and said "this is for us". Then at the end of the night the wifi was out and they could not run my credit card. So they came to the table to ask if I had cash. I don't know about you, but no I don't normally carry $200 cash on me to cover the bill and tip. So the only option I was given was for them to write down my credit card information to run the bill at a later time. I was uncomfortable with it, but I didn't have another option. It just stinks because this place was an "almost". With a different server and a different table, we might have had a totally different experience.

We had been here previously 2 weeks before and everything was excellent. This time the food was superb but the service was lacking. He kept saying they were busy but the restaurant was half full. It probably took 30 minutes to get our first drinks and orders were then taken by a busboy who was then interrupted by our waiter and everything had to be repeated. They were all out of the ribeye which was disappointing to 2 who planned to order it. We were sat at 8:20 and dinner lasted 2 hours. My 2nd drink probably took 20 minutes to bring to me but when he remembered it was already sitting on the bar waiting to be delivered. Also, we asked to sit outside and told no tables were available for 45 minutes yet the large outdoor area was made to have separate tables from the long one when we arrived and they had put a party of 4 there, would have appreciated that as we had asked and it was freezing and loud inside.

The service was bad. Our reservations were late and they had run out of several items on the menu.

The food, ambiance and drinks were divine. I Recommend going just before sunset so that you can sit outside and enjoy the late afternoon weather. I must admit I was worried about the mosquitoes but behind the hostess counter they keep citronella candles and Off spray if you ask them. I highly recommend the tartare for a refreshing afternoon snack along with the summer smash cocktail.

Food was excellent, but has a very small menu. Service was good, but not great. Took too long to order our entrees. I did not find it a good value. I have been to similar or better restaurants and paid much less. $140 for 2 appetizers, pizza, one entree, and two cocktails. I would just go for a special occasion. The setting is gorgeous.
