The Woodmans Arms is a beautiful ‘country feel’ pub and dining room situated within the village of Whickham, at the top of the hill, hidden amongst rows of spectacular trees. We are more than just a venue, we are a destination worth travelling to serving classic comforting food made with love, served in cosy surroundings overlooking the most amazing views of the North East.

We are the proud winner of the Newcastle Chronicle’s Eddy Eats’ pub of the year for character, quality, service and value. UK top 3 in the Seafish National Fish and Chip awards 2019 and Diners’ choice award for best ambience. Best British Pub Pie winner for 2020.

We support our local farmers, and work closely with a number of local suppliers to ensure the very best fresh produce. All our food is cooked freshly to order so whether it be a bar snack, light bite, leisurely lunch, evening meal or Sunday Roast it is safe to say that you will in safe hands.

    After a few recommendations was a bit disappointed. The place looks lovely. Service was pleasant but chaotic. We had barely sat down when someone asked if we were ready to order. Asked for more time. The Sunday lunch was fairly average (have had better at a lower price point). It felt like it was chicken, couple of soft roasties, 1 carrot etc and small bowl of uninspiring veg. We were grateful for the gravy boat although the gravy was excessively salty. The Yorkshire was perfect. After we finished someone asked if we wanted the dessert menu. We gave an excited yes then after 30 mins still no dessert menu. We eventually got someone’s attention and received the menu. We both opted for the berry and apple crumble. Disappointingly it was crammed in a small bowl with very little custard. Bits of it were cold and bits hot as if it had been poorly microwaved. If heard so many good reports and was really looking forward to this. It was just ok, disappointing for the price point. Lovely location and building but can’t say I would rush back.

    Service fantastic, 1st time we have been. Sunday dinners were lovely and small portions were still a really good size . Lovely grounds and nicely decorated

    Went for a particular meal only to be told it was no longer served due to increased purchase cost - surely if the cost is 'passed on' it would be my choice. Big issue was no drinks menu - advised that wine was available but once we chose type we were not advised of cost in advance of purchase.

    Absolutely amazing. Welcoming and friendly from the beginning to the end. A lovely treat for my daughter wishing her a happy birthday was a lovely touch.

    We both ordered the dry aged sirloin of beef at a premium price. The beef was tough and very fatty. To be honest it spoiled the otherwise very nice meal.
