About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Romantic
  • Good for special occasions
The Test Kitchen, our temporary pop-up on Frith Street has now come to an end.
We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone that has dined with us and our regulars for their continued support.
The input from you all has been invaluable and we already have a fantastic repertoire of dishes, ready for when we open our permanent restaurant in central London later this year.
Please do stay in touch!
Thanks,
Adam and The Test Kitchen Team x

This was our first visit to a test kitchen and to be fair we both really enjoyed it. The ingredients used really did compliment each other to make for a really enjoyable tasting experience. As always with this type of cooking - there is never enough :-)

While sitting at the pass on the front line of a busy dinner service, with chefs attempting to keep their composure under our watchful eyes is a recipe for a socially awkward situation....I was converted after the first course. Loved the concept - while it’s geared more towards your feedback at the end of the meal, it does allow diners with special requirements to essentially choose what they can sub in and out of a dish they’d like (one of my guests was vegetarian). All the dishes I tried were pretty well polished; perhaps because Adam Simmonds was close to wrapping-up the Test Kitchen’s tenure in Soho. The Pollock and the Beef Sirloin in particular were exceptional. Looking forward to hearing about Adam’s next venture!

Too much chi chi for what it really is... Some dishes definetly star worthy, others soso While - concerning the „pop-up“-concept - it might be ok to just serve the things on the menu, it’s still a bit disappointing to get nothing else from the kitchen: no amuse, no small inbetween, no small extra sweet...especially when taking the meager portions served in concern. Finally we were billed 20quid for a dish we neither had nor ordered. There are so many other options for fine dining in soho/the westend - athertons socials, the new frog, ...

I like how the chef keeps the flavour of the food and not using heavy tasted or strong flavoured sauce. However, I think improvement could be done on the beef. It was comparatively less appealing than the fish and duck which I had. Except that, I especially like the fish and duck! They were both perfectly cooked! The sauce for the fish is so yummy!

From start to finish we all loved every mouthful. The staff, including Adam, made us feel so welcome. Will be back to the Test Kitchen and will seek out the team’s next venture. Great night. Thx

Michelin level food in a cozy atmosphere and affordable prices. We really enjoyed our meal at the Test Kitchen. The food is really creative, but also very tasty. You have to be a bit adventurous with some of the dishes, but it pays off handsomely. The plaice in white butter and caviar was simply to die for, and the beef with bone marrow and mushrooms is the kind of dish that will keep me coming back to the same restaurant for years - although I appreciate it that 99% it won't be there next week... Deserts were also fantastic - I hate liqurice and the waitress talked me into ordering the dish which had it in - and I LOVED it. Bottom line - if you are a foodie and enjoy tasting menus, but want to have some choice - this is the place for you.

We had a very good dinner here the other day. Seasonal, sophisticated flavourful dishes, friendly, relaxed but efficient service, great to see Adam cooking right in front of us. Definitely recommended!
