   The pub was closed when we arrived! The chef had walked out a week before and no-one had told us! We confirmed via open table the previous day but heard nothing. Fortunately there was a pub across the road that could accommodate us. Low review as nothing to review really!

   It was a lovely sunny day so sat outside which was nice. service was good - friendly and not slow or rushed. It was a bit disappointing that there was no pepper and knives weren't very sharp and there was no offer custard, cream or icecream for the sticky toffee pud or even an offer of. Having said that, the roast was good with loads of different vegetables and tasty gravy.

   Great staff. Very dog friendly. Loved the straighforward menu without too many choices and our roast dinners were generous and nicely cooked. Local pub ambience rather than a chain restaurant which for us was a total positive after dog walking.

   I booked the table a week before, I received a confirmation when I booked and another confirmation a couple of days before. On the day they phoned to say there had been a problem with the booking system and they would not be serving at the time I had booked. They did offer me an alternative time but we couldn’t make that time. I was not offered any compensation only an apology. Very poor service in my opinion.

   I chose the pub as it offered a reasonable range of Gluten Free Food. It was a village pub and the decor was basic but clean except for a back smell of dogs. The staff were very good and the service was prompt. All the GF options were free. Not a date night venue!

   Noise level - dog friendly BUT a party of 6 brought in 4 large dogs which were barking at other dogs. Need to limit the no of dogs per table. Food great - but let down by cool plates and cool food - except for baking hot roasties! But the pub was busy

    The Rose and Crown accepted our reservation but when we arrived they told us the restaurant had stopped serving early that evening due to the ban holiday that day and we were sent away. They acknowledged their error but obviously a very disappointing and frustrating experience.
