About this restaurant

Nestled on the green in the centre of historic Nunhead, The Old Nun's Head is a touch of the countryside in the city, a local pub in a South East London village, an all inclusive members club, but first and foremost The Old Nun's Head is a Public House serving the community.

We operate a 'Street Food Kitchen', with 2 house chefs and a monthly rotated guest chef. So on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays expect Burger Bear, Wednesdays and Sundays Soul Cocina bringing Latin flavours as well as traditional Sunday lunches with a twist and BBQ's in the summer. Thursday and Friday's we have monthly guest residencies in the kitchen. Until the end of January, Mama's Jerk Station offering Caribbean street food. Starting in February is Vagabundo serving eclectic Brazillian Barbeque.

There are a few things which makes this place great. Chilled atmosphere, incredibly helpful and friendly staff and amazingly good food. You don't need to read an essay here, just take my word for it and try it out.

Arrived at a busy pub to be told they had no record of our reservation. Admittedly, we had made the booking quite late in the day (booking was for 8:45pm and we had made it 3 hours prior), but they shouldn't accept bookings if they won't honour them. We were told by a staff member that they only "look at the computer" once earlier in the day, and don't check after that. They offered a brief muted apology and then get back to serving other customers. The pub has a good reputation for food and it certainly seemed lively, it's just a shame we couldn't try it. I don't think they should take bookings after a certain time if they can't honour them. OpenTable forces me to give a full rating across categories, but please ignore my rating for Food + Value as we didn't sample. Ambience was based on our brief time inside, and as I said it seemed like a good lively venue, if a bit loud, but it was a Saturday night!

Fun, and filling, evening sampling delicious Greek-food pop-up I Should Be Souvlaki. It seems there's always something going on at the Old Nun's Head – whether it's a street-food residency or a comedy night. Or both. Good range of indie beers too, including several local ales.

The I should be souvlaki pop up was incredible! The food was amazing. I think it's running until the end of May 2015 and would encourage everyone to go and check it out, especially on a Thursday when the pub quiz is also running.

Great pub atmosphere, good hang out for locals. Pop up Kitchen, so menu is always changing. Great events, including comedy nights with Pull the Other One!

Great burger from Burger Bear (but be careful as they serve different food on different days. I was on Saturday and that's for example the Burger Bear day. AMAZING burger!!!!! Sides didn't blow me away (ordinary fries, etc.) but the burger...... only for it, it's worth going!!!

Service was absolutely amazing. We booked in late and the staff done everything they could to accommodate us!! Makes a huge difference when staff are so good like they are.
