About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Romantic
Classic Irish cuisine from chef Sean Smith in the Kildare countryside.

Sean’s mouth-watering new menu is as always sourced locally with some ingredients even grown on the very grounds of the Cliff at Lyons Estate. Food lovers will enjoy classics such as Roast Rib of Beef, Cherry Valley Duck Breast and Oven Baked Baby Turbot with sides of seasonal vegetables, mini Seafood platters and of course for something a bit sweet, Whiskey & Orange Ice Cream or Chocolate Fondant with Salted Caramel Ice Cream.

The Mill restaurant is the heart of Cliff at Lyons, with huge double-height ceilings, warm open fire and windows that open up to a terrace beside the mill race and waterfall. Here, you will find a relaxed style of dining where it is easy to enjoy a lunch or dinner with friends or family. The illuminated waterfall provides a unique back drop to this airy and spacious room.

Find an excuse to treat yourself!!! Omg this was just fabulous! The venue, the food but the service from Mark our waiter made it extra special. For such a young man he was so charming and full of banter! We enjoyed him so much! Thank you cannot wait to go back.

Lovely dining room in an old flour mill with lovely views of the mill race outside the windows. Very pretty setting. We ate at lunch time on a Friday and there were only 2 other diners. So in such a large semi formal setting it felt a bit too quiet. Food was very nice. Our group tried the steak, chicken and fish. All lovely.

The setting is outstanding. Walking up at night with the lights and outdoor fire set a lovely scene. The restaurant itself was beautiful too. Our table was more central so unfortunately we didn't get a table close to the views of the water outside. The starter was scallops it tasted lovely but was tiny. Two small scallops on the plate. The main I chose was venison. Over €40 for 2 small squares. Sides were charged separately. For dessert I chose the apple sticky toffee. I didn't finish it it was stodgy and unpleasant. Our bill total was over €200 for 2 people. This included a glass of wine and glass of champagne and a zero beer. I felt this was very expensive for what we got.

The food was excellent and the location is fantastic. Minor comment is the table near the waterway was drafty.

The food and service was great when serving the 1st & 2nd courses. When it came to the dessert they must have forgotten about us as we were left waiting for a menu after been asked if we would like to order dessert. In the end, we decided to forget about and left.
