About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Fancy
Ireland's most iconic drawing room looks out on the only garden grand enough to match: the glorious St. Stephen's Green. The Lord Mayor's Lounge is the perfect back drop for a special day in Dublin. A room sparkling with light; it is a welcoming setting for our celebratory theatre of that most civilised ritual: the art of Afternoon Tea.
The elements have remained unchanged over the centuries: a fragrant pot of tea, a succession of sweets and delicate sandwiches, fine china, fresh flowers and delighted laughter. This time is all about enjoying the lovely things in life, an experience designed to be shared and savoured. Time slows down and the art of conversation is revived.

From December 1st, our wonderful Lounge will convert to a casual dining venue from 7.30pm daily, allowing our guests to experience an exquisite food offering in our iconic setting.

Started bringing people in exactly on time. We had a fantastically attentive and pleasant server at our table by the window. There was a bit of a chilly draft but it wasn't as noticeable as the room heated up from the people. We tried several teas and coffees to see if we could find a new favourite. The afternoon tea came out on the usual tiered stand. The scones were divine, warm and airy. The sandwiches were ok, standard fare, nothing too fancy or different. The chicken and smoked salmon were favourites, the egg mayonnaise was a little bland and I cannot comment on the feta, as it is not a cheese I like. The lower tier of desserts were quite nice, a salted caramel éclair and a lemon macaroon type one. The top tier desserts were a mixed bag, the banoffee in a chocolate pot was adventurous in design and tasted decent. The pistachio and raspberry cake was a dloppy disaster, just tasting like marzipan...not one person at the table liked it. Sandwiches and scones could be refilled on request. I had thought perhaps there would be some kind of nod to Easter, it being Easter Saturday but it was the usual classic tea. We enjoyed our outing, commend the service, but could be a little more 5 star in favour of food.

I had to ask three times for a glass of iced water with lemon. The first time she came back with plain water, the second time she came back with lemon and the third time she came back with ice. They are not listening…very ignoring. Then she came back four times to tell us we have an hour and 45 mins limit. We heard her the first time and she managed to tell us three more times. Again…very disappointing. Will not do it again. This is not worth the 75 euro per person.

We were in town for the weekend and were looking for a special experience - and High Tea delivered that! The service was friendly and impeccable. Our 9 year old will remember the desserts for years to come. Thank you!

The food and tea were subpar and definitely not worth the $300 spent for 2 people. My tea was steeped too long and was bitter. The sandwiches were ok but the scones were not delicious. The sweets were pretty good. The staff asked if we wanted any additional sandwiches and proceeded to tell how much it would cost extra if you wanted more sandwiches. Two days prior I had afternoon tea at the Savoy, same price point but a far different and better experience. The Savoy didn’t tell you up front how long you could sit at the table and if you wanted an additional sandwich that there would be an additional charge. Truly disappointed in the Shelbourne Hotel’s tea experience. They need to start over and focus on training staff to present afternoon tea in a different way. Felt like I was buying a used car.

My niece and nephew had never been in the Shelbourne Hotel and our experience surpassed expectations-the restaurant gave my gluten intolerant niece her own afternoon tea -which was the best bread she had for years ! My nephew absolutely loved the tea and Karen brought him a special birthday treat when we told her his birthday was coming up ! It was a really special afternoon and thank you so much to Karen and the team in the Shelbourne Hotel for great memories!! Fiona

The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, Emelia was serving us and she was so knowledgeable and friendly. We requested a special add on for my Mam and it went down an absolute treat. Couldn't be happier with our experience. So worth it.

Service and ambience was great but food (especially sandwiches) was surprisingly bland and teas generally needed to be steeped longer. A final oolong tea tasted like hot water. Deserts were underwhelming. We have had tea service at places around the world and unfortunately, the Shelbourne did not deliver.
