The Lion Wendlebury reviews GOOGLE REVIEW SUMMARY 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1★ 4.1 132 reviews GOOGLE REVIEWS Most helpful Adam Ellis Adam Ellis 1 review just now So let me tell you about by second and worse of the two experiences here, since I don't have enough room to explain both. We had a late lunch after a day of exploring Blenheim Palace/Woodstock, so we didn't get hungry again until around 7 or so .We were just going to snack on some things we had at our cottage but decided the four of us would walk up to The Lion for some starters instead. Upon arrival at about 7:30 we went and seated ourselves, just as I had witnessed a couple do during my prior visit. The restaurant was only slightly busier than last time, at about 1/4-1/3 capacity at best .Having our two small children in tow, we find a table in the back of the restaurant in a seemingly out of the way area. After getting set down (and no one showing up to take our drink order) I walk to the bar to order drinks/get menus. A nice waitress starts taking the drink order but is interrupted midway through by little Mr .Weasel from day one . He all but slams some menus down on the bar in front of me and says, " You better order quick because we have a bunch of people coming at 8 and the kitchen is going to get VERY busy, your food might take a VERY long time. " I said ok, and he began to walk away, but then started berating the female bartender because she had poured a lemonade from the tap which was apparently "bad" . Then she couldn't find the bottled version he pointed her to, so he said to her, in the most pompous manner, and I quote, "what's wrong mate, it's right in front of you, I mean, I know you're a blond, but COME ON!" Bottom line, order in, cook, or drive to a real restaurant who have REAL men working there!

The Lion has changed hands and the new owners are not (yet) connected to Open Table, so our long-created reservation would not have been recognised had I not called to check. Then I discovered that the place is about (early Feb) to close for refurbishment, so decided to hold off for a while

The meal was for friends who meet up irregularly but had a wonderful time in a great restaurant. We were not rushed and the service was excellent.

very slow service, we did not get anything to eat for an hour and had to go to the bar to get coffees at the end of the meal. this was a great lunch venue until changing hands, used to have two courses for a good price, now the choice is sandwiches or a la carte main menu so expensive for lunch. Very disappointed

Have eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. As a veggie I sometimes struggle to get nice meals that aren't just lasagne or risotto. Good value for money and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be eating here again.

Second visit and still happy with the overall package. If I was looking to give some constructive criticism I’d say that the food could have used a little more seasoning, particularly the game pie, but it was well cooked and we enjoyed it. The only real issue we had was the temperature in the extension. It was very cold outside and the cool air was getting in somewhere despite the rest of the pub being very cosy. We do, however, enjoy the Lion and will be back. The service is always good and nobody is too pushy which is very welcome. Thanks again for a nice visit.

We booked a table for New Years Eve before Christmas. Contacted by The Lion after Christmas and told it would be hot and cold buffet with music. Unfortunately music and food was on conservatory and tables reserved for large parties. Where we sat we could not hear music. The food was cold and I had to ask for mine to be put on microwave. Not good value at £30 a headfir 3 of us. The had empty tables so perhaps people knew better than us. We are new to Bicester but will be a while before we go back to The Lion. Such a pity as it’s a nice looking pub

Nice ambience, pleasant staff, very average food! Such a shame as this place was recommended to me for hearty pub food. We ended up leaving food on our plates because it just wasn’t appetising enough to finish.
