   We dined out for our 18th wedding anniversary, my parents called in on the off chance one lunch time previously and had a very good meal so we decided to book for Sunday carvery. The food was cooked well, but the plates were cold, the meat wasn’t placed on the plates very well, not a lot of care, but the gravy was very nice (I like it thick) overall an ok meal but wouldn’t rush back on a Sunday. Well maybe try lunch in the week.

   The food was of good quality and very nicely cooked. The rating is probably affected by the fact that on a Saturday lunchtime, for the first twenty minutes or so, there was nobody else in the restaurant part and then only one other couple came in therefore there was very little in the way of ambience. To get to the Gents you had to go through the entrance then all through the Public Bar via the pool table area which was very small. It would need another visit, maybe in the evening, to assess it properly but short of that it is not a place to where we should rush back.

   We went with our 3 children to celebrate our mum's 78th birthday (no special treatment from the management, despite informing them when we booked) . Our young waiter was brilliant but the lady who seemed to be in charge was trying very hard not to have any eye contact in case we asked for anything. It was quite funny. She was ok-ish once we caught her eye though. The chef was nice and friendly and the roast was tasty and plenty.. At the end of our meal, were quite shocked to be served absolutely appalling "cappuccino" which we sent back straightaway. Turned out their machine wasn't working properly but they decided to serve it anyway, which probably made us certain that we wouldn't go again.. Overall, The Kings Head sounds better on their website than the reality. They need to work on their front of house skills, a"welcome" would have been nice when we walked in. The manager ignored us but the young boy was lovely and took us to our table. 5 star for the boy.
