So the calamari rings were cut way too thin, almost like strings and they gave less than only 10 rings, yes I counted! It was an extremely small portion put on top of a salad, but I didn’t order a salad, so why put calamari on top of a bunch of greens that had no salad dressing on it? …hmm …maybe to make the dish look bigger than it was? Maybe because they were too cheap to give actual calamari in their calamari dish? Maybe it was to save money since the bar usually goes out of business every 3 months and then sold to new ownership whom repeat the same poor ethics? Next the beef brisket tacos were the smallest tacos that I have ever seen, It was like ridiculously too small, jokingly microscopic, absolutely pathetic and quite insulting to the customer. I wish that I had put a 50 pence coin next to these tacos and took a pic for you viewers just to show the silly small scale of these tacos …and there was only 3 of these little things. Still hungry ofcourse I ordered a hamburger …my 3rd regretted dish. The bun was hard and stale, the meat was ground chuck and ground up in a course fashion so you get that non-crushed bone fragment chunk on your teeth when biting down while chewing. It was certainly not a fine ground beef like a Great American Hamburger. The cheese wasn’t even melted on top of the patty so the cook didn’t put the cheese on the beef patty while it was still on the grill. And the cheese was a very cheap cheddar Asda version slice that had zero taste to it, besides tasting like plastic. The burger dish said that it came with a salad on the menu but it did not, and when I asked the waitress where was my salad as described on the menu she said that the menu meant the greens on top of the burger …but which should NOT be classified as a salad. This pub is absolutely terrible, and I will never recommend anyone to order anything from it’s menu besides a pint of beer which you would hope that they can’t screw that one up too. - The Phantom Gourmet Ego

Very enjoyable lunch at The Honor Oak. They have updated the menu and definitely for the better. The spicy chicken, feta and spinach parcel was especially good, but all the food was very tasty. And the service was great too. Great local pub.

The food and service was fine but the room was half empty on a Saturday evening so the atmosphere was lacking. Menu limited. Same old pub food ! Not even a special.

Lovely staff, food and decor, only let down the very noisy road adjacent.

The honor oak used to be famed amongst our friends as the best Sunday lunch in Forest Hill area. This is no longer the case. The smell of the bins mixed with the dirty outside tables,(one was finally cleaned for us) did not bode well for a nice dining experience. It seemed like the waitress was under pressure, but the restaurant was not busy, yet the food still took ages to arrive. The poor guy who had a started ended up eating on his own by the time his meal came. The plates were hot but the food wasn't that warm and with only one tiny lot of cabbage on the plate, which apart from one carrot and one parsnip, accounted for the only vegetables. I don't know, I used to like this pub, but I couldn't believe the barman put only one shot of vodka in the mix for two bloody Mary's,(of which they didn't have tobacco or Worcestershire sauce-sort of necessary for a Bloody Mary?!). So after a very weak vodka and tomato juice , a very average meal with even more average bar staff and table service is to say on a whole- I will not be going there until they get their act together, especially at those prices. Very sad for what used to be the winning pub in the area.

Service was slow with a few people not really sure what to do. Roast beef was very overcooked as was beef burger. Reasonable prices though and a really nice venue - if they can get the food quality up this will be a cracking local.

this is my local but I doubt I'll return to eat there, maybe just for drinks next time without the baby. They don't allow a pram in the restaurant and you have to wait till they finish serving a few people before they give you access to the baby changing facilities. We had to change our baby three times so I probably spent about 30min in total waiting at the bar for toilet access. It wasn't busy but the service is slow. The pork I ordered was so dry I dared not to ask for extra gravy because it would've taken too long. We were a group of 4, and our mains were served roughly 10-15min apart per couple.

unfortunately a lot of confusion about what food was actually in the fifty per cent off mains offer, so reordered once this was clarified in order to benefit from the deal. Service was very slow and when the bill came it was at full price and we had to query it to get the long discussed 50% off. It was a £30 + difference. Overall left a bad taste in the mouth!

Average venue. Service / staff good and decent wine but aside from that not quite as described. No children's play area as advertised on the website. On Sunday only a set menu was available limiting the vegetarian options to just one choice (a heavy meal consisting mainly of pastry and a lot of potatoes) and no separate children's menu. Disappointing.
