We have dined at the Greyhound once before and thought it was very good - we were really looking forward to coming back. The food was generally very good again - my starter was the best asparagus dish I have eaten and all three of us enjoyed delicious main courses. However, it was extremely busy and this caused some problems. In spite of the fact that we are at the beginning of service, they had run out of bread. Service was slow, although our waitress was very apologetic and attentive throughout. I was very disappointed with my pudding - a pavlova with rock-hard meringue and not very nice rhubarb. My husband and son had better luck with their choices. I had ordered coffee with my pudding but it arrived quite a while afterwards. We were then told at around 8pm by another member of staff that other customers were waiting at the bar for our table and could we please finish our meal at the bar. We thought this was a bit much, given that we had actually booked the table for 7pm but arrived earlier. In addition, we are ridiculously fast eaters and had only taken as long as we did because the service was slow. This was a on a bank holiday; on reflection, this was not the best time to go. It seems that the Greyhound might be a victim of its own success. We were grateful that our waitress knocked some money off the bill.

The best food and drink in Suffolk. I’ll always trust Will with matching the right wine to the best cooking in East Anglia.
