Mark Hix's country pub with rooms (Best Pub at the Trencherman's Awards 2022) is nestled in the Dorset countryside, open 6 days a week serving drinks, snacks an all-day a la carte menu, and Sunday roast. We serve drinks only on Tuesday lunchtime.

Enjoy food & drink sourced from the South West in the warm and welcoming surroundings of our 17th Century Grade II listed pub. Settle in by the open fire or dine on locally sourced food and drink in the Garden Room with a wine list that champions British winemakers.

Stay the night in one of the stunning Annexe's designed by Mark in his inimitable style and enjoy breakfast in front of the fire. The Fox also has live music every month and regular guest chef and producer events.

Take in the views of fields from the outdoor seating area from our covered and uncovered outdoor seating.

Mark's Kitchen Library offers a unique private dining experience for 10 guests with a bespoke menu created just for you and your guests by Mark.

Surrounded by Mark’s personal collection of over 2,000 cookery books, antiques and curiosities, you and your guests will dine infront of the Aga, feasting on local seasonal produce. Our Kitchen Library seats 10 people around our large country kitchen table. We have a choice of feast menus for you to choose from and will be very happy to assist with wine suggestions and arrival drinks. If your booking is for 11 or more guests we are able to offer The Fox Room as a private dining room. Here you will be surrounded by Mark’s Foxy collection of artwork and taxidermy and also invited to order from our feast menus. Please note a minimum spend will apply for our private dining rooms and a 50% deposit will be required to secure the booking.

This was an amazing place, the food was fantastic and on the way home deciding what we would have on the next visit. All produce, sourced locally, perfectly cooked and seasonal. My Daughter had the chocolate mousse which was to die for! Staff were friendly, relaxed and the restaurant had a lovely vibe. Heard that the Fox is closing and so really pleased that we were able to experience the food, but so sad that we cannot bring friends to try. Looking to find a date to fit in one more meal. Fabulous !! Thank you

We enjoyed dinner and overnight with breakfast at The Fox Inn earlier this week to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Having dined at several Mark Hix venues over the years, including The Fox, we were expecting an enjoyable dinner; but having decided to go for the option to stay overnight we decided to go for the full monty and arrived early enough for a bar lunch. We did not regret any of it! The country pub ambience is a joy, the bar snacks on offer are unusual and delicious whilst the welcome is warm and friendly. Our accommodation in Bill’s Annex was comfortable, well appointed and stylishly quirky, with a private garden terrace. To cap it all, Mark was cooking in person (dinner and breakfast) and we enjoyed chatting to him as much as the food. Many thanks for a wonderful stay. Of course we shall be back.

Good that the Fox is flexible for someone with a vegan diet but I do wish they had a proper vegan main and dessert on their menu as so many other eateries now do. The hand drier in very noisy when seated near the toilets in the conservatory.

We had two very good meals. Nice ambience at the Fox Inn, with its individual and quirky character, set in a lovely part of rural Dorset. My Cornish Hake was excellent and my Wife enjoyed her Sirloin steak. Puddings were good as well. Nice to have a chat with proprieter Mark Hix, and excellent service from Spirios and the rest of the team. Highly recommended (and also nice to get an additional sweet of hazlenut chocolate - to mark my birthday !)

Unexpected gem of a restaurant in the countryside of Dorset. Tasty, local dishes which made our evening very enjoyable and complete. Would certainly come back if we would live in the vicinity. Youp and Karin - the Netherlands.
