About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for scenic views
  • Charming
Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, (1833-1849), the first American fur trade post in Colorado. The Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Kiowa and Pawnee traded and intermarried at Bent's Old Fort, creating an economic and peaceful exchange of cultures in an otherwise violent West. The Fort building is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and celebrates the many cultures that traded at Bent's Old Fort. Our menu features "New Foods of the Old West" including the best cuts of buffalo, elk and quail, grilled to perfection. There are vegetarian options inspired by American Indian recipes including Corn Beans and Squash, known as the Three Sacred Sisters. The wine list is awarded the Wine Spectator each year, and the nine dining rooms, with intimate seating, has a 350 seat capacity, with real adobe "beehive "fireplaces that burn wood in the winter and fall months. Romantic. Amazing views of the Valley and Mountains!

Everything about the restaurant felt like home. I loved that the music playing was just soothing instrumentals instead of the typical music playing in restaurants. Unlike everywhere else you go, it didn’t feel like you were being rushed. They wanted you to take your time and enjoy yourself, which we did very much. The views, the staff, the food, the atmosphere all 10/10 Will definitely be back to try something new on the menu!

Service was awesome. Very friendly and attentive. Beautiful location and views. The food however did not measure up to the cost. Spending over $225 for 2 was over priced for the lack of quality , not great of flavor and a disappointing meal presentation. The cheesecake was the worst I ever tasted too. The lamb did not look like it was fit to be served in a restaurant that charged so much. In fact it was the worst looking meat I ever saw served on a restaurant plate. I guess it was not their forte. The bread was good. The Rocky Mountain oysters was good. The cappuccino was good. And the mash potatoes was delicious. The salad wasn’t bad. The entree and dessert really disappointed me though. For the amount they charge , they should make the meal quality match the cost. And at least try to make the presentation of the meal fit for the type of restaurant they charge for. I won’t recommend it after the experience I had. But I do like the venue for other things without the food being included.

Frozen Lima beans mixed with corn for the "fresh" vegetable was disappointing. Overall the food was great. It was off-putting to have the waitress stand over me at the table waiting for me to decide a tip amount and close our check out. I'd asked for the bill, but I don't enjoy someone standing over me waiting (seemingly impatiently) while I interrupt end of dinner conversation to do things at someone else's behest. Besides that, it was a nice evening.

My husband and I had Easter dinner at The Fort yesterday. We had a mid afternoon reservation so the restaurant was busy but not full. We were seated promptly at a table with great view. Our servers, Ruth and Alec, worked well as a team. They were attentive but did not rush us. The food was excellent. It was an expensive meal but for a holiday, we felt ok splurging. Great experience!

We have eaten at the Fort numerous times over the years and it never disappoints! We are so lucky to have this one of a kind Colorado restaurant to bring out of town guests to or celebrate holidays with family. We had the Easter special (lamb) as well as salmon, steak and buffalo tenderloin today. Our meats and fish were tender and flavorful, sides were cooked just right. Our server was excellent-checking in on us routinely but not too little or too much. Thanks to the Fort for another lovely meal!

I was disappointed there was a limited menu. For Easter. My ham was great, the mixed vegetables corn and lime beans, not my favorite. Mashed potatoes were simple. I only received two rolls. Small in size. I have been to the Fort several times before. The service was excellent.

Easter dinner was terrible! The vegetables were canned corn and Lima beans and they were all dried out. The beef filet was tasteless and not cooked to order. For 5 people the bill was over $400. TOTALLY not worth it. Wish we had gone someplace else.
