About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for scenic views
  • Charming
Situated in the Red Rocks country 17 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 285, The Fort is a true replica of Bent's Fort, (1833-1849), the first American fur trade post in Colorado. The Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Kiowa and Pawnee traded and intermarried at Bent's Old Fort, creating an economic and peaceful exchange of cultures in an otherwise violent West. The Fort building is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and celebrates the many cultures that traded at Bent's Old Fort. Our menu features "New Foods of the Old West" including the best cuts of buffalo, elk and quail, grilled to perfection. There are vegetarian options inspired by American Indian recipes including Corn Beans and Squash, known as the Three Sacred Sisters. The wine list is awarded the Wine Spectator each year, and the nine dining rooms, with intimate seating, has a 350 seat capacity, with real adobe "beehive "fireplaces that burn wood in the winter and fall months. Romantic. Amazing views of the Valley and Mountains!

Restaurant is a neat experience with period decor and live music that isn’t over powering. Not sure if there were AC issues, but it was warm inside - even for my wife who is always cold. If you’re going for game meats, those were excellent. The rest of the food was ok but not great value for the money. Service was prompt but not rushed and pleasant.

I have been going to the Fort since the 70s and it has never let me down in any way. The herb butter Buffalo filet is so amazing there is nothing equivalent anywhere. Melts in your mouth, but be warned, once you’ve had it it will call you back over and over again.

Brunch review only. Had Father's Day brunch at The Fort. Such a disappointment. Service was incredibly slow, we had to flag down a bus boy to get water/drinks after 10 minutes. Biscuits & Gravy showed up barely lukewarm, no spice/flavor to the gravy. Eggs Royale, again lukewarm, "ancho smoked sauce" no flavor, poached eggs like something from a cafeteria. Bummer, the dinners we have had here have been really good. Aside from the cinnamon rolls brunch on a special day was a total bust. Totally not worth the $$.

We have been to The Fort many times for dinner and actually held our wedding reception there. Prior to Father's Day, I had never had a bad experience there. We had our first brunch at The Fort on Father's Day, and it will also be our last brunch there. I will preface this review by saying they were not crowded. I think some of the issues could have been explained by a crowd, but the restaurant looked to be maybe 30% full. I was there with an 83 year old, an 88 year old, my husband and my daughter. We waited 45 minutes for our brunch. 45 minutes! The food server never said anything about it, and when I asked about our food after 40 minutes (the one table near us who came in after us had already been served) she said "We're looking for it." I did not think that answer was helpful. She apparently found our food and brought it out. My mom did not like her tacos at all and did not eat any of them. My daughter and I both had tacos and we both thought they were solidly mediocre. My mother in law did not like her biscuits and gravy. My husband did like his steak. Not that anyone asked! When I asked for a to go box "because my mother did not like her food" (might as well take it for my husband), the server did not respond. At this point, I am not sure I will go back for dinner, but I will definitely not go back for brunch.
