About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
The royal nature of THE DUCHESS is captured in the refined flavours from Southern France and Italy, known as Nouveau-Niçoise Cuisine. The custom-made Molteni kitchen is an impressive centrepiece fit for a royal, where exquisite dishes are created alongside decadently delicious desserts. THE DUCHESS menu is one of intricate simplicity with classics such as luscious Fruits de Mer platters, rotisserie and grill specialties and homemade ice-cream coupes prepared at the table. The heydays of a historic era are relived when one is seated at the majestic marble bar of THE DUCHESS. The exclusive Mariage Frères tea and champagnes are to be enjoyed in the elegant Tea Room during afternoon tea, featuring an array of delicate sweets, macaroons, éclairs, truffles and cotton candies. Afternoon tea at THE DUCHESS reminds one of an Alice in Wonderland tea party with an abundance of teacups, teapots and cake tiers.

It was not clearly stated beforehand that you could only stay at the table for 2 hours. Afterwards, I only saw this in the small print in the mail. I personally think that if you eat in a michelin star restaurant you cannot ask people to leave after 2 hours. My idea of a star restaurant is all evening dining and extensive eating. Now the food came 5 minutes after it was ordered, this felt a bit like I was at in an all you can eat restaurant. Exactly 2 hours after the reservation the bill came on the table and we could still go somewhere crammed into a corner to order dessert if we still wanted. Then we left because it is an expensive restaurant where I want to enjoy a whole evening and not just quickly slide in. All in all the food is good but I think the restaurant is not worthy of a star, because of the poor service.

Amazing food, excellent service, great location. Small complaint, the music was a little too baddy and loud. Not horribly so, just louder than sociable for nice conversation.

First of all, really good service and welcoming staff in the first place. Not really their fault that the food is really bad and that theyve been instructed to oversell dishes to the customer. Now onto the food. Our overall impression is that the food was bland and poorly made. We started with scallops for the entre, the scallop itself was cooked ok. However one the dishes was really salty, I think the scallop may have been overseasoned, which then again results in a way too salty dish. The sauce and mushrooms that came alongside the dish was bland and probably something I could make at home, not something that I should pay €12,50 pr scallop for. For the main dishes, we had dover sole meuniere (€46), roasted chicken (€35) and mashed potato (€9) on the side. First of all, the portions were small and could not fill us up. The fish was underseasoned, quite dry and the sauce that came along was boring and added really little to the dish itself. The chicken, again, was underseasoned, overcooked and dry, and the sauce on the side was unpleasant in the sense that it tasted a little burned and underseasoned. The mashed potato was underseasoned, grainy and poorly made. I could probably make better (and more) mashed potato at home for a fraction of the price. Overall, I would not recommend going here at all. Not for the food, nor that the instagramability really weighs up for the lack of quality in food. We ended up paying close to €200 for a meal I could make at home without any real effort and a meal that didnt fill us up to the extent that we had another dinner a few hours later. Stear clear of this place until they figure out that a Michelinstar doesnt mean that you have the right to become lazy and drop the quality of the food this much. If they were given a star based on the quality of the dishes we had, then I for sure have big questions with either the palate or the ability of the judge who gave them this star. AVOID!

Since the beginning when we entered the restaurant, service was on point. We were treated properly from the beginning until the very end with a nice gesture to help us celebrate our anniversary. Wine list was quite nice, could be a bigger collection from more areas but we found an pleasing wine nice and easy. Food was exeptional, could eat a kilo of their king crab. Nice job.

Some of the dishes like the pistachio pasta dish was a bit underwhelming but in general the food was quite good!
