   We have eaten at The Barrel before and were disappointed this time. Our order was taken and we ordered nibbles of olives and bread. This arrived promptly, but we asked for side plates so that the table wasn’t covered oil and crumbs. This took 5 minutes or so to arrive. We were part way through the nibbles around 5 minutes later when the main courses appeared. We had a fish and chips, 3 steak pies and the Chicken Kyiv special. The chips on the fish and pies were obviously re-heated and not great. The pies were full of meat but the pastry was so hard it was difficult to cut and again seemed reheated. The special was overcooked and not very palatable. Customers should finish their starter and nibbles before mains are served. The speed with which the main courses appeared suggests they were pre cooked and just warmed up to be served. The experience was of eating in a fast food outlet rather than a pleasant country pub, which had always been the case before.

   Very tasty food, we enjoyed it very much. Second visit for us and we will be back.

   Always consistently good in service and food. Sunday lunch is excellent quality and value. Views are fantastic. I have a hearing impairment and the ambient noise levels were spot on. Probably the best in North Derbyshire. Kev Rowney

   Usu as l high standard of food with a great variety of choices. Went for the Tempura Mushroom and Brie burger. Very tasty.

   Excellent choice of food - loved all of it. The vegetarian choice was especially good.

   Good choice of food on the menu. We were a party of six today. Several different options chosen. All dishes were well presented and served at the right temperature! Not always the case we find. We were all delighted with our meals. Staff very efficient and welcoming. Excellent value for money

   Really nice food and a lovely location. The fish pie was delicious but the size of portion was quite small.

    Great food and setting. Competitvely priced for the area. Service good but a broader selection of after dinner options would be good incl liquor coffees. A broader drinks selection in general maybe.
