The service was initially fine. However while waiting for our food to arrive we noticed our waiter resting his head on the bar in full view of all diners. Later we saw fingers were used to add a raspberry to a drink - glad it wasn't mine.
The food was fine, though what was on offer on the menu was less varied than i t has been in the past.
After having seen our server laughing and chatting in the small entry to the kitchen for a while, I managed to signal that our table was ready to be cleared, we were offered the dessert menu, however when the menus arrived after a good 15 minutes the moment had passed, we mentioned this to the waitress and asked for the bill. The waitress shrugged her shoulders and said "ok". I said "no it is not ok - it is poor", to which she replied "this is not my table"
We paid without leaving a tip, and left feeling disappointed. I felt particularly embarrassed to have brought my visitor here. I have enjoyed Backstreet many times previously and was certain it would be as good as previously, however the service was so poor I will have to think twice about going back.
