   Ten-Ichi is an institution on Fillmore St. It's been there for a long time, which means it's been consistently good because this is a busy street for restaurants. I love their veggie tempura and their udon noodle soup. They have some nice appetizers and a decent selection of sakes too. I'm not a sushi person so can't speak to that but for other classic Japanese dishes, Ten-Ichi is one of my go-to places.

   Positives: reasonable prices. Good sushi. Negatives: below average service, forgotten roll the brought wrong roll. Hot food was overcooked and lacked flavor. Overall: would not go again as many better options are available.

   The sashimi was sliced a little thicker than I prefer. But the sashimi appetizer, sukiyaki, sashimi and teriyaki salmon and the spicy salmon yabe naki all tasted very good. I saw the tonkatsu being serviced to the adjacent table and it looked delicious as well.

   We've eaten in Ten Ishi since it opened and it is tragic to watch it slide downhill. Service is perfunctory now by dour-faced young women. The menu has been Americanized and several Japanese items "out". We will not be back. Miss the old days of Ten Ichi's glory.

   Made a reservation for 9:30. Arrived ten minutes early and they said they were closed. Their website says they were open til 10 that day.

   Ordered a spicy tuna roll, no mention of any PEANUTS on the menu or in the roll description (I have a severe allergy). When I began noticing something amiss in the food I asked the waiter and he said there were in fact peanuts and that I should have alerted him at the beginning; I typically do this only if nuts are listed on the menu. Needless to say we had to leave to go to the hospital and were charged the full amount of our meal.

   Things sure have changed since the last time I ate here; about 10 + years ago. Food is really mediocre and half the items aren't really Japanese. They must be trying to cater to the non-Asian customer. The Japanese fried chicken was pre-cooked and I suspect not even fried. Also, it came with sauce on top; not very authentic! I could see how this place would appeal to families with small children. Lots of screaming kids with parents paying little attention to them. Next time, I'm heading back to Japantown for REAL Japanese food!

   We were a party of four (all long-time S.F. residents) and we all agreed we had never had worse service. One entrée was delivered before we even got the appetizer we were going to share, and that entrée was cold--both the meat and the vegetables. One person had ordered beer which he had to ask for again as we were well into our entrees and it had not come. One of the party has health issues which restrict her on what she can eat and no alcohol. When ordering, she asked for a separate check which the server agreed was fine. But all of the orders were on one check. At no time throughout the meal did anyone come by to see if we needed anything or if everything was OK. Never will we go to this restaurant again!
