TakuMen is an Izakaya-style restaurant located in Long Island City.

Conceived by a group of Japanese friends who forged their bonds in New York, their venture began as a Ramen project, but gradually developed into a family-friendly eatery that combines elements of Izakaya, a noodle shop and neighborhood cafe.
While Izakaya culture is the soul of TakuMen, it does wear more than one hat. In the front sits a serious coffee bar with a skilled barista who uses Parlor Coffee beans. It is also a lunch joint where local patrons show up for rice bowls and noodle fare. The grocery shelf filled with condiments and ingredients used in the kitchen symbolizes TakuMen's commitment to transparency.

Takumen was our favourite LIC neighbourhood restaurant when we lived in LIC, and we enjoy an excuse to go back to LIC nowadays so we can also revisit Takumen. Pitched as a Japanese izakaya, I find it pretty unique, not a typical Japanese restaurant at all. Maybe a hipster Japanese restaurant. With a cool coffee & pastry shop entry-point, full bar, a somehow artsy/indie/minimalist interior, combined with a great rice-bowl and ramen lunch menu, plus excellent steak and sashimi dinner options, the place holds it own in any neighbourhood. My only gripe is that they used to be a no-tip restaurant, then when the minimum wage regulations came into effect in NYC they upped their prices - and started inviting tips. So you now pay a few extra dollars for every meal. Still worth it, however.

I think the food at Takumen is delicious. I think the prices are high for their sake and wines and should include lower price options - they start at $60 per bottle. Also the Wing appetizer was very small. So you'll enjoy the food but will pay a premium for it.

all good things, from the funky bowls to the real Shochu and delicious food. going back for sure. Oh, and the service here is both awesome and friendly.

The food of TakuMen was great! Their signature chicken wings are one of a kind. We also had Spicy Goma Miso Ramen. That was so delicious. We will definitely back!
