About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Good for special occasions
  • Romantic
The space that Spoon and Stable occupies was an old horse stable where they used to have the horses haul in the material off of the river to the downtown mill factories and warehouses. Built with incredible bones and unforgettable charm, we have taken the space and created something that will be fun, inviting and above all else, comfortable. James Beard award winning Chef Gavin Kaysen leads his team on a nightly basis to bring you casual and delicious food. The menu is designed to please all the senses, and desires one will have when dining out. There are five sections on the menu, “garden,” “chilled,” “grains & pasta,” “sea,” and “land.”

My wife and I have celebrated our last two wedding anniversaries at Spoon and Stable (numbers 32 & 33). Their team (Jeff the general Manager, Adam our server and everyone else) AND their food, are truly second to none. A special shout out to Jeff for getting us in with such short notice. Your leadership shines through the staff and everything else you've built there. What a special place to celebrate ANY occasion. Thank you for another fantastic night at Spoon and Stable. Tom & Kim

We were excited to finally get a reservation and the service from hostess station to servers was fabulous! The finest we've experienced with our server being top notch. Great descriptions of food and on point with when to stop back. The craft cocktails were also divine. The Manhatten was perfection. The food was good. We had one lamb chop. The bone prob weighed 2 lbs. the meat, 2 oz? We had scallops. Two make a lovely appetizer, not a dinner. Get the jist? We re not buffet goers. We don't need to be over fed, just fed. We don't mind spending $200 for dinner, just tired of walking away from these new trend restaurants ready for dinner. The energy/vibe of the restaurant was lively and fun which is much appreciated.

Very inventive food preparations. The carrot salad was fabulous. I liked that the wine glass pours were done at the table but the wine prices were ridiculously high. The atmosphere was certainly high energy. Not the place for a quiet, romantic dinner. The food quality made up for all possible criticisms.

Spoon and Stable was our first dinner stop on our culinary tour of Minneapolis. The decor is lovely and there was a buzzing crowd when we arrived for our Thursday evening reservation. Our waiter, Derek, was super and a perfect balance of attentive and polite while not being over bearing. The bread and butter was delicious - I regretted not saving more of it to sop of the sauce of my entree. I had the Parisian gnocchi which was very good, but not entirely what I expected. My husband had the pot roast which was so tender it actually stained his shirt! We split the crispy potatoes and brussels sprouts sides. The sprouts were very good, but the potatoes were just ok. I had the pumpkin chiboust for dessert which was excellent - A nice blend of seasonal flavors. The petit fours with the check were a nice touch. Finally, since we'd been traveling all day we kept to the non alcoholic drinks which were amazing - It's nice to be able to get a sexy cocktail without alcohol!

We were fortunate enough to sit at the chef's table overlooking the kitchen. It was amazing! Adam took great care of our wine pairings and the service and food were very thoughtful. Delicious! Can't wait to go again

I was afraid I would be disappointed after all the buzz and hype over the restaurant. Instead, it exceeded expectations! The food was fabulous--the beet salad and spinach are not to be missed. For the first time ever, I ordered pheasant and it was superb. My date had the pork chop and raved about that as well. Both portions were ample. The crowning glory was dessert--their take on tres leches with multiple textures--outstanding!!

Second visit to Spoon and Stable, and will return when visiting Minneapolis. Knowledgeable and attentive staff, very good food, and ambiance make for a good environment for special occasions and/or a night out for dinner. Cotton candy is a fun and tasty twist.
