About this restaurant

  • Lively
  • Hot spot
  • Neighborhood gem
Soothr, properly pronounced “Sood” is the Thai word meaning “Recipe”. This East Village establishment is the vision of close friends who grew up in different regions of Thailand, hoping to share their experiences and recipes with the rest of the world. Raised in distinctive regional cities, each individual brings their own unique relationship with Thai cuisine, with a specific focus on the generational family recipes that have shaped their childhood and time growing up in Thailand. With a specialty in family noodle recipes from throughout Thailand, Soothr offers a culinary experience that is geared towards the comfort and warmth of dining at home. These traditional recipes have brought great comfort and a sense of home for generations, and Soothr at its core is an invitation to sit at the table and enjoy a classic, Thai family meal.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: Noodles are the star at this Thai East Village gem that got raves from Eater and the New York Times after it opened in 2020. You'll find them in a host of regional dishes like the spicy ba mii pu (dry crab noodles) and chicken khao soi. Pair them with equally exciting cocktails like the tequila and tamarind syrup-based Pay-Thai in a neon-lit space that'll make you feel you're at one of Bangkok's famed street-food markets.

Made a reservation here for my husband’s birthday 2 weeks in advance. When we arrived, the hostess couldn’t find our resy even after I showed her my confirmation email from OpenTable. She then told us we’d have to wait because “other reservations were also waiting” and every table was completely full?? When we were finally seated (at 9:50 pm), it was about 10 minutes before the kitchen closed. Our resy was for 9:30 pm. Our server (Fame) immediately told us we had to order right away, without even having any drinks at our table. Almost everyone in our party has worked in hospitality before, so we expected some of this. What we didn’t expect was for our entire order, INCLUDING THE BIRTHDAY DESSERTS, to hit the table within ten minutes of placing our order. Appetizers, mains, and desserts all at once. While we ate, the desserts sat and melted. About 15 mins into eating our food (before even touching dessert), the server dropped the check and started clearing half-eaten plates. I told him twice we were still eating. We also noticed we were charged for the duck dish (which we ordered) but never received. The server removed it once we pointed it out, but we had to catch the mistake ourselves. I get wanting to leave your shift as soon as the kitchen closes, I’ve been there. But if you can’t accommodate a reservation, don’t accept it. Rushing a party through dinner in 45 minutes and sending out dessert with the mains is unacceptable. Food was good, but because of the service, this place doesn’t belong in the same breath as other Michelin or Michelin guide restaurants at all. Don’t come here for a celebration because the memory will be ruined. I want to point out that people often save up for special nights like this, and when you’re serving a table that’s celebrating something meaningful, you become part of that memory whether you want to or not.

Both the food and service are amazing. The waitress recommended two/three dishes and it was one better than the other one. Overall highly recommended!

Food was good and service was attentive but very rushed! Would have preferred a more relaxed pace. Finished 3 course lunch + cocktail in 45min.
