   Booked an Afternoon Tea for Mothers Day weekend on the basis it would be in the main house which is what the pictures on the website show, on arrival there was a wedding and another party in the dining spaces within the house so was directed around the corner to the "Solent Kitchen" instead, for those of you unfamiliar with the Solent Kitchen (as i was) it is a basic cafe within the gym complex (If you know Littledown in Bournemouth, it's basically the same as this). Despite the disappointment at the surroundings we decided to sit down for our £30 per head afternoon tea. We sat and waited for 45 minutes whilst the kitchen gradually dished up hot food to the odd tables that had people waiting. Bearing in mind we were waiting for essentially sandwiches and cake, this became more and more frustrating. We could even see the sandwich/cake tower wrapped in clingfilm on the side, not once did anybody attempt to serve this to us. Eventually we just gave up and left. The afternoon tea was pre-booked, you expect it to be dished up relatively quickly, however between the kitchen & the waiting staff they appeared to be trying to push out each order in the order it had come in and must have been incapable of multi-tasking and unwrapping a cake tower at the same time. When you combine the service with the surrounding of essentially eating in your local gym its not what you would expect to pay £60 for. The main house may be nicer/better, but be warned if you end up in the Solent Kitchen don't bother and go somewhere better!

   very overpriced and awful customer service. food was nice but just so expensive for what you get. not a very nice decorated restaurant, feels a bit like sitting in a canteen

   Came here for a spa day and lunch and although the grounds and buildings were lovely, it did not live up to expectations. When booking the spa package it said “enjoy an appetising lunch carefully produced by our talented chefs.’ And it was far from that. We ordered a vegetable curry for £19 which in itself seemed a ridiculous price. We could see the kitchen from where we were sat and watched the ‘chef’ microwave a bag of rice for the curry. The curry was quite bland but edible all in all. If it was £10 I wouldn’t be so disappointed but it just didn’t live up to the price tag and definitely wasn’t homemade. Nice staff but slow service and we were the only ones in there ordering lunch. The only positive was the nice touch to bring a muffin on a happy birthday plate for my mum.

   Atmosphere was dead Service was not the best We heard the staff arguing in the area Vegetarians don’t have much choice No ambiance 😔

   Our waiters did their best but did not seem to have been told of our arrival at the kitchen, so a table was quickly prepared for us when we came. After our main courses we were disappointed to hear that we could not be served with deserts or coffees etc. because the kitchen was now closed, despite them being on the menus given to us when we arrived. We were told that drinks could be ordered in the hotel bar but only learned there that not only could we have drinks but could order deserts there too, which were excellent. We would recommend Solent Kitchen to friends but with the reservations detailed above.

   A beautiful hotel to have afternoon tea. We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside . The view was lovely and we could take our time to eat and enjoy .
