Shinsei Restaurant - Traditional Sushi / Contemporary Asian Kitchen

When we came up with the concept of Shinsei we wanted a place that reflected our lifestyles: sometimes we went out to dinner with our kids and sometimes with our friends and husbands. We wanted to create a place where a night out with the kids didn’t mean food adults had to suffer through or a night out with the parents didn’t mean a stuffy place where kids had to wear a scratchy clip-on tie. Shinsei is just that: a neighborhood gathering place with date night appeal.

But not so unexpected that you won’t be able to decipher the menu or recognize your favorite dish. Our signature poppers, for instance, are a sophisticated mix of late night bar food and sumptuous finger food with a distinctly Asian flair.

Visited Shinsei for the first time to celebrate a friend’s birthday and had a wonderful experience. The food was phenomenal, the ambience was great, and the service was spot-on. The only feedback I have is about the layout — the table tucked behind the curtain felt a little cramped. The chairs placed in the corners against the curtain didn’t seem necessary unless a party size called for it (like 8 people). It could be uncomfortable for anyone who doesn’t easily fit into a tighter space. Just something to keep in mind! Did not at all change my perspective on my visit though — truly EXCELLENT experience all around! ◡̈

Creative and delicious sushi/sashimi crafted by Elvis and team are always a treat. The menu is broad with choices to satisfy almost every dining guest. Lively and enjoyable atmosphere with superb service. It’s always crowded and never disappoints.

Usually a great experience, but this time the food and service was mediocre. The evening started with the hostess taking us to a counter table after booking a standard table (no big deal). I told her that I requested a standard table and she argued with me about what kind of reservation I made (the restaurant was nearly empty). They later moved us to a standard table (after she checked the reservation I suppose) and the service was fine. This is the first time the menu and food felt tired and lacked quality. Not sure that I’ll be back anytime soon.
